Xbox Game Pass August 2026: Games, Dates & Day-One Releases

- Five day-one titles are confirmed so far: Beast of Reincarnation (4 August), Monsters Are Coming! (6 August), Sandustry in Game Preview (13 August), Grave Seasons (13 or 14 August, sources differ) and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy (27 August). Every one arrives on Game Pass the day it launches.
- This is not the official lineup yet. Microsoft announces Game Pass in waves and its own Wave 1 post for August is due on 4 August. Everything above comes from individual publisher announcements and store listings, so the list will grow.
- Your tier decides whether “day one” means anything to you. Essential ($9.99) gets no day-one releases at all. Premium ($14.99) gets Xbox-published ones twelve months after launch, which is not day one. Only Ultimate ($22.99) and PC Game Pass ($13.99) get them on release day — and PC Game Pass is PC only.
- The tier also decides which of these five you can reach. Sandustry is PC Game Pass only; Monsters Are Coming! and Resonance are Ultimate; Beast of Reincarnation and Grave Seasons are on both. There is no single tier that covers a PC-only title and a console requirement at once.
Five day-one games are confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in August 2026 — and the more useful question is not what they are but whether your subscription actually gets them, because one tier excludes day-one releases completely.
Start with the caveat that most lists skip: this is not the official August lineup. Microsoft announces Game Pass additions in waves, and its own Wave 1 post for August had not appeared when this was written; it is expected on 4 August. Everything below comes from publishers announcing their own release dates. The list will grow.
What is confirmed for August 2026 so far
| Game | Date | Tier | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beast of Reincarnation | 4 August | Ultimate, PC Game Pass | day one · from Game Freak |
| Monsters Are Coming! | 6 August | Ultimate | day one |
| Sandustry (Game Preview) | 13 August | PC Game Pass | day one · PC only |
| Grave Seasons | 13 or 14 August | Ultimate, PC Game Pass | day one · sources differ on the date |
| Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy | 27 August | Ultimate | day one |
All five arrive on Game Pass on their release day. Note the tier column — it is doing more work than it looks.
For comparison, July’s lineup ran to a fuller list because Microsoft’s waves had already landed by the time it was written.
Which tier do you need for day-one games?
This is the part that decides whether the list above is relevant to you at all.
| Tier | Per month | Games | Day one |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99 | 50+ | None |
| PC Game Pass | $13.99 | 300+ | Yes — PC only |
| Premium | $14.99 | 200+ | Xbox-published titles, 12 months after launch |
| Ultimate | $22.99 | 500+ | Yes |
Essential does not get day-one releases. Not later, not some of them — Microsoft excludes them from the tier. If day one is why you subscribe, Essential is not a cheaper version of the thing you want; it is a different product.
Premium’s day one is not day one. It covers Xbox-published titles only, and only twelve months after they launch. That is a real benefit and it is not what the phrase normally means.
So of August’s five, a Premium subscriber gets none of them in August. An Essential subscriber gets none of them at all.
Which of the five can your tier actually reach?
Even among the tiers that do get day one, the coverage splits:
- Sandustry is PC Game Pass only. An Ultimate subscriber on a console cannot reach it.
- Monsters Are Coming! and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are Ultimate.
- Beast of Reincarnation and Grave Seasons are on both.
There is no single tier that covers a PC-only title alongside a console requirement. If you want Sandustry on release and you play on an Xbox, that is two subscriptions or one compromise.
We built a small tool for exactly this arithmetic: tick the games and the devices you use, and it returns the cheapest tier that genuinely covers them, with the option of comparing against buying the games outright.
Is Ultimate worth $22.99 for this?
That depends on a number only you have, which is why the tool asks for it rather than assuming.
Ultimate is $275.88 a year at list price. Against that, four of August’s five titles are Ultimate-eligible. Whether that is good value turns on what those games would cost you to buy — and prices differ enough by region and storefront that any figure we printed here would be wrong for most readers.
The structural point is simpler. Game Pass is cheapest per game when you play many of them and never want anything on release day; it is most expensive per game when you want two or three day-one titles a year. The tier ladder is priced against that behaviour, not against the size of the library.
What to watch
Wave 1, on 4 August. Microsoft’s own post will add titles to the list above and is the first authoritative source for the month.
The Grave Seasons date. Two dates are circulating, 13 and 14 August. The store listing on the day will settle it.
Leaving-soon titles. Games rotate out of Game Pass as well as in, and no sourced list for August has appeared yet. Anything you were part-way through is worth checking before the middle of the month.
Sandustry’s Game Preview status. It arrives in Game Preview, which is Microsoft’s early-access programme — a different proposition from a finished release, and worth knowing before you start it.

How we verified this
Tier prices, game counts and day-one rules were read off Microsoft’s own Game Pass page on 2 August 2026, and read card by card rather than in order: each price was matched to the tier name inside the same block of the page, because a list of four prices and four tiers is exactly the kind of thing that gets mispaired by assumption. Essential $9.99 with 50+ games and no day one; PC Game Pass $13.99 with 300+ and day one; Premium $14.99 with 200+ and day one limited to Xbox-published titles twelve months after launch; Ultimate $22.99 with 500+ and day one. US pricing, before the $1 introductory offers.
The games are the weaker half of this article and the piece says so where it matters. Microsoft had not published its August Wave 1 post when this was written — it is expected on 4 August — so the five titles below come from publisher announcements and store listings that games sites have collected. That is why this is framed as “confirmed so far” rather than as the lineup.
One date is disputed. Grave Seasons is given as 13 August by some outlets and 14 August by others; both are shown rather than one being picked. The rest are consistent across sources.
Nothing here claims a game will be good, and no leaving-soon list is included, because no sourced one exists for August yet.
