Where to Watch Taylor Swift's 'Patient Zero': Listen Now, and the Video's VMAs Premiere

“Patient Zero” is already out as a song, but the music video is not: it premieres during the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday 27 September 2026, live on CBS and MTV at 7:30 p.m. ET. If you only want to hear the track, it has been on every major streaming service since Friday 25 September, and there is an official lyric video on Swift’s own YouTube channel.

Where can you listen to “Patient Zero” right now?

Everywhere you normally stream music. The song arrived at midnight ET on Friday 25 September 2026 as part of an expanded edition of Swift’s 2025 album, and it is on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and SoundCloud, as well as her own YouTube channel.

The track runs about 3 minutes 46 seconds. It is not marked explicit, although several other songs on the album are.

The 7-inch vinyl and CD pressings of “Patient Zero” that went on sale through Swift’s own store were limited runs and have sold out, so the store is not a route to it now.

When does the “Patient Zero” music video premiere?

During the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, on Sunday 27 September 2026. The ceremony runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. ET, and the video is set to have its world premiere at some point inside that two-hour broadcast. No one has said which point.

The broadcast is live on both coasts, so Pacific viewers see it at 4:30 p.m. with no tape delay. Two hours is the scheduled length; live awards shows routinely overrun.

How do you watch the VMAs?

On CBS or MTV if you have a television, or on Paramount+ if you are streaming — but only on the Premium plan. The show is simulcast on CBS and MTV, and Paramount+ carries it live through your local CBS station’s feed, which sits under Live TV in the app.

• Paramount+ Essential cannot watch live. That plan has to wait.

There is no national pre-show. The only red-carpet programming announced is a local Los Angeles broadcast, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. ET on KCAL and CBS News Los Angeles, which runs straight into the ceremony.

How can you watch from the UK?

Not live, at least not officially. The ceremony is scheduled to be available internationally the day after the broadcast, on Paramount+ and MTV, which means Monday 28 September. No UK time has been published for it.

Be careful with what you read elsewhere on this: at least one UK outlet has told readers the show is on MTV UK live and put the start at half past twelve in the afternoon. The live broadcast reaches the UK at half past midnight on the Monday morning, and the official line from the network is that international viewers get it the next day rather than live.

Where will the video be after the premiere?

Nowhere that has been announced yet, which is the honest answer. No platform and no time has been given for the video after the ceremony, and there is no scheduled premiere sitting on Swift’s YouTube channel.

Her music videos have historically gone up on that channel, and the official lyric video for this song is already there, so it is the obvious place to check first once the show ends. We are not going to put a time on it, because nobody has.

What is “Patient Zero”, and what is The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore?

“Patient Zero” is one of four new songs on an expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl, the album Swift released in October 2025. The expanded version, subtitled The Encore, arrived on 25 September 2026 and adds “Patient Zero”, “Cleveland!”, “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon” to the original twelve tracks, for sixteen in total and about 55 minutes.

It is a deluxe edition rather than a new studio album, which is worth keeping straight if you have seen the two described interchangeably. All four new songs have official lyric videos on Swift’s YouTube channel.

Who is in the “Patient Zero” video?

Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, alongside Swift, who directed it herself. The cinematographer is Emmanuel Lubezki, who has won the Academy Award for cinematography three times.

A short preview released on Thursday 24 September showed Johnson and Farrell, a cemetery, rushing water and Swift in tears, without giving away what connects them. The video’s running time has not been announced.

Is Taylor Swift performing at the VMAs?

She is not on the announced line-up of performers. Swift is receiving the first MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, but MTV has not confirmed whether she will be there in person to accept it.

She goes into the night with nine competitive nominations, or eleven counting two fan-voted categories that were added later — which is why you will see both numbers. Madonna leads on both counts and opens the show, her first VMAs performance in 23 years. Snoop Dogg hosts, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the first time the ceremony has been held in the LA area since 2017.
