Toy Story 5 Streaming Release Date: Cast and Where to Watch Online

- You can watch it at home from Tuesday 18 August 2026 — by buying or renting it. That is a confirmed date on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, and it costs money each time or once, depending on whether you rent or buy.
- That is NOT Disney+. Disney has announced no Disney+ date at all, and its own film page still lists nothing but the theatrical release. If you are waiting to watch it on your existing subscription, 18 August is not your date.
- The Disney+ date will probably land in the second half of September, but nobody has said so. Three separate ways of estimating it — the Elio window, the Inside Out 2 window, and the Inside Out 2 digital-to-Disney+ gap — all point at 16, 23 or 30 September. All are inference, not announcement.
- Expect about two weeks’ warning. Disney announced Inside Out 2’s Disney+ date 13 days ahead; Elio’s came roughly a week out. So a late-September arrival would most likely be confirmed in mid-September.
- New cast: Greta Lee as Lilypad, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, Bad Bunny as Pizza with Sunglasses and Craig Robinson as Atlas, alongside Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack. The film has passed $1.02 billion worldwide and is still in cinemas.
Toy Story 5 arrives at home on Tuesday 18 August 2026 — but you will have to buy or rent it. It is not coming to Disney+ that day, and Disney has not announced a Disney+ date at all.
That single distinction is the answer to almost every version of this question. Two days from now the film goes on sale digitally. If you are waiting for it to simply appear inside the subscription you already pay for, you are waiting for a different, unannounced date that is probably still about six weeks away.
When can I watch Toy Story 5 at home?
From Tuesday 18 August 2026, by buying or renting it digitally.
Disney has confirmed the date and the platforms. The film goes on sale on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, where you can either rent it for a viewing window or buy it permanently. Buying also unlocks extras that renting does not.
That is 60 days after the 19 June theatrical opening, which is a slightly faster turnaround than Pixar’s recent pattern — Inside Out 2 took 67 days to reach digital.
Is that the same as Disney+?
No, and this is the thing worth being clear about.
They are two separate releases with two separate dates, and only one of them has been announced:
| Digital | Disney+ | |
|---|---|---|
| Date | 18 Aug 2026 | None announced |
| Cost | Rent or buy | In your subscription |
| Where | Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango | Disney+ |
| Confirmed by | Disney | Nobody yet |
Much of the coverage blurs this. Forbes ran its 15 August story under the headline “Toy Story 5 Arrives On Streaming This Week” — accurate about the digital release, and easy to read as meaning Disney+. If you see “streaming” in a headline this week, check which one it means.
The clearest evidence that Disney+ has no date: Disney’s own page for the film offers neither. It lists the theatrical date, a PG rating and a 1h 42m runtime, with no buy link and no Disney+ link. And Disney’s press announcement of the digital release does not mention Disney+ once.
When will Toy Story 5 be on Disney+?
Most likely the second half of September 2026 — but that is our arithmetic, not Disney’s announcement.
Nobody has published a date. What we can do is measure what Disney actually did with the two most recent comparable Pixar films, and show the working:
| Film | In cinemas | On Disney+ | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside Out 2 | 14 June 2024 | 25 September 2024 | 103 days |
| Elio | 20 June 2025 | 17 September 2025 | 89 days |
| Toy Story 5 | 19 June 2026 | not announced | — |
Applied to Toy Story 5’s 19 June opening, those windows land on 16 September and 30 September. A third method — Inside Out 2’s 36-day gap between its digital release and its Disney+ debut — lands on 23 September.
Three different routes, three dates in the same fortnight, and all three fall on a Wednesday, which is Disney+’s habitual release day. That is about as much confidence as inference allows. It is still inference.
Expect roughly two weeks’ notice. Disney announced Inside Out 2’s Disney+ date on 12 September 2024 for a 25 September debut — 13 days. Elio’s was confirmed about a week ahead. So if late September is right, the announcement would come in mid-September, not before.
One caveat in the other direction: Toy Story 5 has made over a billion dollars and is still playing in cinemas. A film still selling tickets and still selling digital copies is not one Disney is in a hurry to give away with a subscription.
Where to watch Toy Story 5 online
| Where | What you get | Available |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV | Buy or rent | From 18 August |
| Amazon Prime Video | Buy or rent | From 18 August |
| Fandango at Home | Buy or rent | From 18 August |
| Disney+ | With subscription | No date yet |
| In cinemas | Theatrical | Still playing |
| Disney’s film page | Details, showtimes | Now |
Renting is the cheaper way to watch once. Buying costs more but keeps the film and, in this case, unlocks bonus material that renters do not get.
What do you get on the digital release?
Buying the digital version includes a substantial set of extras, per Disney’s announcement:
- Four featurettes — “The Toys Are Back in Town”, “Casting Playtime” (with Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee), “50 Buzzes and The Great Escape” and “The Lost Toys”
- Five deleted scenes — “First Meet”, “Failed Rescue”, “Playtime”, “Goodbye Charlie” and “Reunion”, introduced by director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris
- A gag reel from the recording booth
- Feature commentary by Kenna Harris, Bob Pauley and Thomas Jordan — digital purchase only
- Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” music video and lyric video — digital purchase only
The commentary and the music videos are the ones to note: they are tied to buying, not renting, and there is no guarantee they carry over to Disney+ when it eventually arrives.
Who is in the Toy Story 5 cast?
The returning core is intact and the new characters are the reason most people are talking about the film.
| Voice | Character | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Tom Hanks | Woody | Returning |
| Tim Allen | Buzz Lightyear | Returning |
| Joan Cusack | Jessie | Returning |
| Tony Hale | Forky | Returning |
| Keanu Reeves | Duke Caboom | Returning |
| Greta Lee | Lilypad | New |
| Conan O’Brien | Smarty Pants | New |
| Bad Bunny | Pizza with Sunglasses | New |
| Craig Robinson | Atlas | New |
Lilypad is the tablet at the centre of the story — the high-tech device the toys are afraid of, as the first trailer set up. Smarty Pants, per the casting coverage, is a motion-activated potty-training gadget, and Pizza with Sunglasses is an abandoned toy shaped like a slice of pizza.
Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Lilypad are named on Disney’s own page for the film. The other character attributions come from trade casting coverage rather than from Disney directly, which is why they are listed as reported rather than treated as identical in weight.
Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris co-directing and Lindsey Collins producing.
If you want more on the new toys themselves rather than the release logistics, our Toy Story 5 review goes through the new characters and how they sit alongside the returning ones.
When is the Blu-ray and DVD release?
Tuesday 22 September 2026, on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD.
There is also a limited-edition 4K SteelBook featuring Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Bullseye alongside the new characters Lilypad and Smarty Pants. Note that the disc date sits inside the window when Disney+ is likely to arrive — so if you are choosing between buying a disc and waiting, the wait may be short.
How did Toy Story 5 do?
It has passed $1.02 billion worldwide — $448.6 million domestic and $573.5 million international — making it the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
Within the franchise it currently sits third, behind Toy Story 4 ($1.073bn) and Toy Story 3 ($1.067bn). If you see a figure around $776 million, that is a real number from earlier in the run, not the current total.
What to actually do
- If you want it this week, buy or rent it from 18 August. Buy rather than rent if the commentary and the Taylor Swift videos matter to you.
- If you are waiting for Disney+, do nothing yet. Check again in mid-September, which is when an announcement would be due.
- Do not read “streaming” headlines as Disney+. This week they mean digital purchase.
- If you would rather see it big, it is still in cinemas.
- Do not pay for a “Disney+ early access” to this film. No such thing exists, because no Disney+ date exists.

How we verified this
The two dates in this article are different things and we have kept them apart throughout. “Digital” means buying or renting the film outright on a storefront. “Disney+” means it appearing at no extra cost inside a subscription you already pay for. Only the first has a date. A lot of coverage uses “streaming” for both — Forbes headlined its 15 August piece “Toy Story 5 Arrives On Streaming This Week”, which is true of digital and not true of Disney+.
The 18 August date is Disney’s own announcement, reported in detail. We used the ABC7 write-up because it reproduces the full press-release detail — the 22 September disc date, the featurettes, the five deleted scenes, the commentary and the digital-only extras. Notably, that announcement mentions Disney+ nowhere at all.
The featurette count is listed as four because four are named. One secondary summary refers to “five production featurettes”, but the detailed write-up names only four titles. Rather than print a number we cannot itemise, we list the four that are actually named and leave the count to speak for itself.
Disney’s own film page was checked directly and shows no home-viewing option. movies.disney.com/toy-story-5 lists the theatrical release date, the PG rating and a 1h 42m runtime, and offers no purchase link and no Disney+ link. We verified that page is real rather than assuming: Toy Story 4’s page on the same pattern returns a live page, and an invented title on the same path returns 404, so the test can both succeed and fail.
We did not use a guessed-URL 404 as evidence of anything. An attempt to check pixar.com returned 404 for Toy Story 5 — and also for Toy Story 4, a film that plainly exists. That means the URL pattern was wrong, not that the page was missing, so we discarded that line entirely.
The September estimate is arithmetic on two real precedents, not a prediction. Inside Out 2 opened 14 June 2024 and reached Disney+ on 25 September 2024 (103 days). Elio opened 20 June 2025 and reached Disney+ on 17 September 2025 (89 days). Applied to a 19 June 2026 opening, those give 30 September and 16 September. Inside Out 2’s 36-day gap between digital and Disney+ gives 23 September. We are showing the working precisely so the reader can see it is inference.
The box office figure was corrected during research. Earlier coverage still circulating says $776 million. The current total is $1.02 billion — $448.6 million domestic and $573.5 million international — which makes it 2026’s highest-grossing film so far and third in the franchise behind Toy Story 4 ($1.073bn) and Toy Story 3 ($1.067bn).
Cast was split by how strongly it is sourced. Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Lilypad are named on Disney’s own page. Smarty Pants, Pizza with Sunglasses and Atlas come from trade casting coverage. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both sit behind a TollBit paywall and were not read; we used their headlines only where those alone carried the fact, and relied on other outlets otherwise. One character we saw attributed in a single low-quality listing has been left out entirely.
Fandango at Home could not be opened from here. It geo-blocks our location and returns the same page for a real and an invented path, so we could not content-check it. It is included because Disney’s announcement names it, not because we verified the storefront.
