Key takeaways
  • The Rolex Shanghai Masters (ATP Masters 1000, Oct. 7-18, 2026, outdoor hard courts) is down to 16 singles players. Every third-round match is final, and the round of 16 starts Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 12:00 Shanghai time, which is midnight ET, per the ATP order of play.
  • Zizou Bergs beat No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 7-6(4) on Monday, Oct. 12, a result that sealed the 2026 year-end No. 1 ranking for top seed Alexander Zverev, per Reuters and Sky Sports; the ATP confirmed the clinch the same day. Novak Djokovic (10) lost his opening match to Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-3.
  • Defending champion Valentin Vacherot, who won the 2025 title as a qualifier, lost 6-4, 6-2 to Tommy Paul (15) in the third round. Paul is the last American in the singles draw. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew on Oct. 3.
  • Tuesday on Stadium Court: de Minaur v Khachanov, then Gea v Mensik from 12:00 local (midnight ET); Zverev v Bublik, then Hurkacz v Davidovich Fokina not before 18:00 local (6 a.m. ET, 11 a.m. UK, 9 p.m. Sydney).
  • The singles champion earns $1,151,380 and 1,000 ranking points from a US$9,415,725 purse. Watch on Tennis Channel (US), Sky Sports (UK and Ireland), TSN (Canada) or beIN Sports (Australia), per the ATP’s broadcaster list.
  • ⚠️ Wednesday’s order of play for the bottom-half round of 16 is not published yet, and the ATP has not confirmed a start time for the Sunday, Oct. 18 final. This page is a snapshot, not live: follow scores on the ATP Tour website or the official ATP WTA Live app.

Sixteen men are left in the singles draw at the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters, and the round of 16 begins on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 12:00 Shanghai time (midnight ET), with top seed Alexander Zverev on Stadium Court not before 18:00 (6 a.m. ET). Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Ben Shelton and defending champion Valentin Vacherot are all out, and Alcaraz’s loss on Monday sealed the 2026 year-end No. 1 ranking for Zverev. This page is a snapshot as of 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in Shanghai (12:55 p.m. ET Monday, Oct. 12). At that point every third-round match was final and no round-of-16 match had started, so everything from Tuesday on is a fixture, not a result. It covers the men’s ATP Masters 1000 tennis tournament, not the snooker Shanghai Masters, which was played July 27 to Aug. 2, 2026.

What is the Rolex Shanghai Masters 2026, and how does the draw work?

It is the men’s ATP Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Shanghai, played Oct. 7-18, 2026 on outdoor hard courts at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center, with a 96-player singles draw in which the 32 seeds skipped the first round. The other 64 players, including qualifiers and wild cards, played the first round on Oct. 7 and 8, and the 32 winners joined the seeds in the second round. The ATP’s results page labels that first round “Round of 128”, but the field is 96 players, not 128. Singles matches are best of three sets, and the doubles draw has 32 teams.

With world No. 1 Jannik Sinner out (see below), Zverev is the top seed. Here are the top 12 seeds and how they have done, per the ATP draw and results (R2 is the second round, R3 the third round):

Who is still in the Shanghai Masters singles draw?

Sixteen players remain, 11 of them seeded: Zverev (1), Auger-Aliassime (4), Medvedev (5), de Minaur (9), Jodar (12), Jakub Mensik (13), Tommy Paul (15), Alexander Bublik (19), Casper Ruud (20), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (25) and Karen Khachanov (26), plus unseeded Arthur Gea, Hubert Hurkacz, Botic van de Zandschulp, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Zizou Bergs. Paul is the last American in the singles draw, and Hurkacz won the title here in 2023. The round-of-16 matchups, in draw order, are:

  • Top half: Zverev (1) v Bublik (19); de Minaur (9) v Khachanov (26); Gea v Mensik (13); Hurkacz v Davidovich Fokina (25).
  • Bottom half: van de Zandschulp v Jodar (12); Ruud (20) v Auger-Aliassime (4); Medvedev (5) v Tsitsipas; Paul (15) v Bergs.

For de Minaur’s season so far, see our Alex de Minaur tracker .

What were the third-round results in Shanghai?

All 16 third-round (round-of-32) matches are final: the top half played on Sunday, Oct. 11 and the bottom half on Monday, Oct. 12, and half of the 10 top-12 seeds who reached that round lost. Results per the ATP, in draw order. The number in parentheses after a tiebreak set (7-6 or 6-7) is the points won in the tiebreak by the player who lost that set.

Arthur Gea’s straight-sets win over Shelton on Sunday and Bergs’ win over Alcaraz on Monday knocked out the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds. The ATP called the Alcaraz match Bergs’ biggest career win, and Sky Sports reported that Bergs was broken when he served for the match at 6-5 in the second set, then won the tiebreak. More on Alcaraz’s year is in our Carlos Alcaraz results and schedule page .

What did Alcaraz’s loss mean for the No. 1 ranking?

It sealed the 2026 year-end No. 1 ranking for Alexander Zverev, the first time he has earned it, as Reuters and Sky Sports reported and the ATP confirmed on Monday. In a preview published on Oct. 9, the day Zverev played his opening match, the ATP said he would clinch by reaching the semifinals, or if both Alcaraz and Shelton lost at any point in Shanghai. Shelton lost on Sunday and Alcaraz on Monday. The ATP says Zverev, the 2026 French Open and US Open champion, is the first German to earn year-end No. 1. Sinner still holds No. 1 in the weekly rankings, and the ATP says the earliest Zverev can take that spot is Nov. 2.

What were the biggest upsets before the third round?

The biggest early upset was Hubert Hurkacz’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Novak Djokovic (10) on Friday, Oct. 9, which ended Djokovic’s tournament in his first match after a bye. Djokovic had come from the China Open in Beijing; see our report on his opening match there . Five more seeds fell in the second round that day, per the ATP, the three highest of them in these matches:

  • Adrian Mannarino beat Flavio Cobolli (6) 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
  • Qualifier Rei Sakamoto beat Andrey Rublev (23) 6-4, 6-4.
  • Wild card Yi Zhou beat Lorenzo Musetti (24) 7-6(7), 3-6, 7-6(1).

The other two seeds out on Friday were Alexander Blockx (27), beaten by Quentin Halys 4-6, 7-6(9), 6-4, and Ugo Humbert (30), beaten by Gea 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Five more seeds went out in the second round on Saturday, Oct. 10: Luciano Darderi (18) to Tsitsipas, Tomas Martin Etcheverry (28) to qualifier Dalibor Svrcina, Alejandro Tabilo (29) to Pablo Carreno Busta, Alex Michelsen (31) to van de Zandschulp and Ignacio Buse (32) to Bergs. That makes 11 of the 32 seeds beaten in their opening match.

In the first round, Holger Rune, entered on a protected ranking, lost 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 to Daniel Altmaier. Matteo Arnaldi beat qualifier Bernard Tomic 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and then lost 7-5, 6-4 to Fritz; his background is in our Matteo Arnaldi profile .

What happened to defending champion Valentin Vacherot?

Vacherot’s title defense ended in the third round on Monday, Oct. 12, when Tommy Paul (15) beat him 6-4, 6-2. The player from Monaco won the 2025 title as a qualifier, beating Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals and Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final, per the ATP’s 2025 results. Seeded 17 this year, he beat Sebastian Baez 6-4, 7-6(5) in the second round. A week earlier he was the No. 8 seed in Tokyo; see our Japan Open 2026 guide .

Why is Jannik Sinner not playing in Shanghai?

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew on Saturday, Oct. 3, and the ATP reported on Oct. 9 that he was ending his season because of injury. Reuters and Sky Sports reported that a knee injury is behind his absence; the ATP’s article said only “injury”. He keeps the weekly No. 1 ranking for now, but Zverev will finish the year ahead of him.

What is the Shanghai Masters order of play for Tuesday, Oct. 13?

Four round-of-16 singles matches are on Stadium Court on Tuesday, Oct. 13: from 12:00 Shanghai time, Alex de Minaur (9) v Karen Khachanov (26), followed by Arthur Gea v Jakub Mensik (13); then, not before 18:00, Zverev (1) v Bublik (19), followed by Hurkacz v Davidovich Fokina (25). That is the ATP’s published order of play for Day 9. A “followed by” match has no set time and starts when the one before it ends. “Not before” (NB) means a match cannot start earlier than that time, but it can start later.

Session start times in other time zones (our conversions; Shanghai is UTC+8):

A midnight ET start means late Monday night going into Tuesday. Doubles also starts at 12:00 on Show Court 3, where Medvedev has a doubles match.

Is Wednesday’s order of play out, and when is the final?

Not yet: as of our snapshot the ATP had not published the order of play for Wednesday, Oct. 14, and it has not confirmed a start time for the final on Sunday, Oct. 18. The ATP’s Oct. 3 tournament guide and the tennis site Tennis Nerd both say Wednesday’s sessions are set to start at 12:00 and 18:00 local (midnight and 6 a.m. ET), but which match plays when has not been announced. The four bottom-half round-of-16 matches still to be scheduled are:

  • van de Zandschulp v Jodar (12)
  • Ruud (20) v Auger-Aliassime (4)
  • Medvedev (5) v Tsitsipas
  • Paul (15) v Bergs

The ATP has not yet published which days the quarterfinals and semifinals are on; they fall between the round of 16 and Sunday’s final. The ATP’s tournament guide does list a time for the singles final, but next to a date that does not match this year’s calendar, so we are waiting for the official order of play for Oct. 18 before printing one. Each day’s order of play goes up on the ATP website a day ahead (Tuesday’s was posted on Monday). Following the draw, the quarterfinals will be:

  • Zverev or Bublik v de Minaur or Khachanov
  • Gea or Mensik v Hurkacz or Davidovich Fokina
  • van de Zandschulp or Jodar v Ruud or Auger-Aliassime
  • Medvedev or Tsitsipas v Paul or Bergs

How can I watch the Shanghai Masters?

In the US the Shanghai Masters is on Tennis Channel, in the UK and Ireland on Sky Sports, in Canada on TSN and in Australia on beIN Sports, according to the ATP’s broadcaster list. Sky Sports says its tennis can also be streamed through the Sky Sports app and NOW. Tennis TV, the ATP’s own streaming service, offers live and on-demand matches, but which matches it can show depends on where you live, so check before you subscribe. For US viewers, Tuesday’s play runs overnight: the day session starts at midnight ET and the evening session at 6 a.m. ET at the earliest. Later-round times will be on the ATP order of play.

Where can I follow live scores from Shanghai?

This page is a static snapshot, so for live scores use the scores pages on the ATP Tour website (Infosys ATP Scores & Stats) or the official ATP WTA Live app. Both links are in the Sources section below. Check the ATP’s daily order of play there too, because “not before” times can slip and the next day’s schedule depends on each result.

How we verified this

✅ Results were checked on the ATP’s official Shanghai results page at 16:55 UTC on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, which is 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in Shanghai and 12:55 p.m. ET Monday. Every first-, second- and third-round singles match on that page was complete, none was marked in progress, and no round-of-16 match had started. All 16 third-round results also appear as Final on ESPN’s scoreboards dated Oct. 10, 11 and 12 (US dates), with matching scores. The round-of-16 matchups and the seed list come from the ATP draw page.

✅ The 96-player field is counted from the ATP results page. It shows 32 first-round matches (14 on Oct. 7 and 18 on Oct. 8), whose winners joined the 32 seeds, who had byes, in the second round. Tennis Nerd says Tennis TV lists 126 main-draw matches across singles and doubles, which fits a 96-player singles draw (95 matches) plus a 32-team doubles draw (31 matches). The ATP page’s “Round of 128” label is a round name, not the size of the field.

✅ The Bergs-Alcaraz result and Zverev’s year-end No. 1 rest on three outlets. The ATP’s Monday results article, a Reuters report and a Sky Sports report give the same 7-5, 7-6(4) score, and Reuters and Sky Sports tie the clinch to Alcaraz’s loss. The ATP’s Oct. 12 article says Zverev clinched year-end No. 1 for the first time and is the first German to earn it, and gives Nov. 2 as the earliest date he can take the weekly No. 1 spot. The ATP’s Oct. 9 preview set out the clinch condition (Alcaraz and Shelton both losing) and said Zverev cannot pass Sinner in the weekly rankings straight after Shanghai.

✅ Tuesday’s order of play is the ATP’s published Day 9 schedule, re-read on Oct. 12 at about 16:55 UTC and matching the ATP’s Oct. 12 schedule article. The ET, Pacific, UK and Sydney times are our conversions (Shanghai is UTC+8; EDT is 12 hours behind, PDT 15, BST 7, and AEDT 3 hours ahead). ESPN’s scoreboard independently lists the first Tuesday match at 12:00 a.m. ET on Oct. 13.

⚠️ Wednesday’s order of play, the quarterfinal and semifinal days and the final’s start time are not confirmed by the ATP. The ATP’s Day 10 schedule page showed no order of play when we checked. The ATP’s Oct. 3 tournament guide and Tennis Nerd both give 12:00 and 18:00 local as Wednesday’s session times, which we report only as the expected pattern. The same ATP guide lists a not-before time for the singles final, but next to the date “Sunday, 12 October”, which does not match this year’s calendar and appears to be carried over from 2025, so we treat that time as unconfirmed until the ATP publishes the Oct. 18 order of play. A Spanish outlet gives the same time; we printed neither. The final’s date, Sunday, Oct. 18, is the last day of the ATP’s published Oct. 7-18 dates.

⚠️ Sinner’s reason for withdrawing is attributed. The Oct. 3 withdrawal is reported by Reuters, Al Jazeera, TSN and NBC Sports; the knee injury comes from Reuters and Sky Sports reports, while the ATP’s Oct. 9 article says only that he was ending his season because of injury. Other withdrawals that appeared in a single outlet’s headlines are left out.

✅ Prize money and ranking points are from the ATP’s Oct. 3 prize-money article. Amounts are in US dollars. Venue and dates come from the same article; the outdoor hard-court surface and the broadcaster list are also stated by a tennis guide site, Tennis Nerd. Hurkacz’s 2023 title is from the ATP’s 2023 Shanghai results archive.

⚠️ Some second-round and first-round scores are ATP-only. Mannarino-Cobolli, Sakamoto-Rublev, Zhou-Musetti and Arnaldi’s first-round win were not found on a second source. Broadcasters come from the ATP’s TV-schedule page; it does not say where Tennis TV is available, so the page says availability varies by territory.

✅ No betting odds, spreads, win probabilities, prediction-market data or picks appear on this page.
