Resident Evil Trailer and Cast: Where to Watch Both Official Trailers

If you searched for the Resident Evil trailer and came away thinking there are three of them, that is the search results talking. Sony has posted two: a teaser in April and the full trailer in July. Both are below. The one labelled “Official Trailer #2” that sits near the top of the results is not Sony’s at all, and it is not a video you have missed — it is the July trailer, re-uploaded by IGN, eight seconds shorter.

Where can I watch the Resident Evil trailer?

On Sony Pictures Entertainment’s own YouTube channel, free and with no sign-in. This is the full trailer, the one most people mean.

Both were checked against YouTube’s embed endpoint from three different origins and came back playable from all three, so they should run here, on YouTube, or anywhere else they have been embedded.

How many official Resident Evil trailers are there?

Two. Searching Sony’s channel for the film returns these and nothing else.

Eighty-four days separate them. Sony’s description on the second one reads “Filmed for IMAX – in theatres 9.18,” which is the studio putting the format and the date in the same line.

Neither title carries a number. That matters for the next question.

Is there a Resident Evil “Trailer #2”?

Not from Sony. The video with that name belongs to IGN, and the numbering is IGN’s own.

Two things give the first one away. It went up 37 minutes after Sony’s trailer on the same morning, and it runs 2:25 against Sony’s 2:33 — eight seconds shorter. Nobody has said what those eight seconds are, and we have not compared the two frame by frame, so treat the runtime as the tell rather than as an explanation.

The second row is the same pattern at the teaser stage. The Film Scene’s upload carries the words “Sony Pictures Entertainment” in its title, which is fair enough — Sony made the video — but it is the channel name, not the title, that says who posted it. That upload went up four hours and 44 minutes after Sony’s teaser and runs three seconds longer.

Neither is a scam and neither is hard to watch. The point is narrower: if you are counting trailers, these two are not new ones. The same thing happened with the Digger trailer , where a film site numbered a Warner Bros. upload “Official Trailer #2” while the studio’s own title called it the Official Final Trailer — and with the Mr. Irrelevant trailer , where the quickest way to separate a re-upload from the studio’s version was the runtime, to the second.

Who is in the Resident Evil cast?

Sony bills four names: Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser. The fuller list, in credits order:

Abrams plays the lead. Sony’s synopsis describes Bryan as “a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”

Beyond Bryan, the studio has not published what any of these people do in the film, and the coverage that has tried to fill that gap does not agree with itself — two outlets put Hauser in Cherry’s part. So the table above gives the names and stops there.

Are any of the game characters in the film?

No. There is no Leon, no Claire, no Jill, no Chris. Every part is written for this film.

Sony’s own copy calls it “an all-new story” and a “reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise” rather than an adaptation of any single game. Cregger has said publicly that dropping the games’ characters in would have felt forced against a self-contained story. If you are going in expecting the cast of a game you have played, that is the expectation to leave at the door.

When does Resident Evil come out?

18 September 2026, in cinemas, from Sony Pictures Releasing — the date Sony puts in its own trailer description: “Filmed for IMAX – in theatres 9.18.”

It is rated R — for strong bloody violence, gore and language throughout — and runs about 90 minutes. No streaming or digital date has been announced, which is normal for a film on its opening day; that decision usually lands months later and separately.

Who made it?

Written and directed by Zach Cregger, who made Barbarian and Weapons, co-writing with Shay Hatten. It comes from Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film, in association with TriStar Pictures, with Dariusz Wolski shooting it.

Constantin Film is the thread back to the older films. The copyright line on Sony’s page for the 2002 Resident Evil still reads Constantin Film Produktion GmbH, and the company has been attached to every film in the series since. Robert Kulzer, one of the producers here, has been on the franchise across that whole run. The continuity is the rights-holder, not the characters.

For a longer-running trailer cycle handled very differently, the Avengers: Doomsday run leaned on cast confirmations and leaks rather than a steady drip of studio uploads.
