Each club also named a six-man interchange squad, with Egan Butcher the Roosters’ reserve and Diesel Hagan the Knights’. Watson was ruled out on Friday 2 October after an independent neurologist did not clear him following a head knock in the preliminary final, so Benaiah Ioelu comes in. Knights hooker Phoenix Crossland is unavailable after the NRL Judiciary banned him for four matches for Dangerous Contact, to which he pleaded guilty, over a hip-drop tackle in the Knights’ preliminary final win. Trent Robinson coaches the Roosters, and Justin Holbrook, once an assistant on Robinson’s staff, coaches the Knights.
Who is performing before the NRL Grand Final?
The pre-game entertainment is reported to be an all-Australian ensemble led by Amy Shark, with members of The Screaming Jets, Grinspoon, Peking Duk and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, performing a tribute to retired South Sydney player Jai Arrow. Arrow announced his retirement and his motor neurone disease (MND) diagnosis himself on 20 May 2026. Reports say the acts will perform cover songs including “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, that each fee is being donated to MND causes and that Arrow will take a lap of honour. Those details come from media reports, and the NRL’s published schedule gives no start time for the performance.
How do I get to Accor Stadium, and are tickets still available?
The Grand Final is sold out, according to NRL.com, so a ticket already in hand is the only way in. The closest station is Olympic Park, about a 10-minute walk via Olympic Boulevard, and train travel is included in the match ticket. Express and limited-stop trains run to Olympic Park from Central and Western Line stations from mid-afternoon. Major event buses run between 1.35pm and 6.05pm AEDT, and the last return bus leaves at 11pm. Transport for NSW has the full plan.
How did the Roosters and Knights reach the Grand Final?
The Roosters finished fourth on the ladder and the Knights seventh, and the Knights won all three of their finals while the Roosters won their last two. Each side’s own score is listed first.

|---|---|---|
| 1 | L 12-19 Penrith | W 20-10 South Sydney |
| 2 | W 46-10 Cronulla | W 12-10 Warriors |
| 3 | W 36-20 Dolphins | W 22-14 Penrith |
NRL.com says the Roosters are in their first decider since 2019 and the Knights, last year’s wooden spooners, in their first since 2001, with a win giving the Knights a third premiership and the Roosters a 16th.
What should I check before kick-off?
Check NRL.com’s team lists and late mail on Sunday 4 October 2026, because the final 17 for each side can still change before 7.30pm AEDT. This guide was written on Saturday 3 October 2026, contains no result and uses no betting odds, tips or win probabilities.
How we verified this
✅ Pinned to a point before kick-off. Written on Saturday 3 October 2026 (AEST), about 20 hours before the 7.30pm AEDT start. Nothing has been played, no result appears on the page, and the guide should be retired or rewritten as a recap after full time.
✅ Kick-off, schedule and venue were checked against three independent source types. The league’s own match centre lists the start as 08:30 UTC, the league’s Grand Final Day guide lists gates, the State Championship, the NRLW final and the NRL final in AEDT, and the broadcaster’s own release and the public broadcaster’s explainer agree on the state-by-state times. The New Zealand, UK, Ireland and North American conversions are our own arithmetic from 08:30 UTC, checked against the time-zone database using the daylight saving rules in force on 4 October 2026.
✅ Team lists come from the league’s official team-list page and its match-centre feed, which agree, plus the league’s 24-hour update published on Saturday 3 October 2026. The list page still carries one stale line in its introduction saying Connor Watson was named on the bench. Its Ins and Outs panel and the league’s later late-mail article both show him out, and we followed those. The final 17 for each side is not confirmed until game day.
✅ Where to watch was checked against Nine’s own release, the league’s guide and the public broadcaster’s explainer, which all give Channel 9 and 9Now. The statement that the match will not be on Kayo or Fox Sports comes from the public broadcaster’s explainer and fits Nine describing its broadcast as exclusive. The league’s guide lists only Nine and 9Now for Australian television. Overseas channels are the league’s published list and were not checked with each broadcaster. The 6.30pm AEDT start for Nine’s coverage is from Nine’s release.
⚠️ The entertainment is reported, not on the official schedule. The line-up, cover songs, fee donations and lap of honour come from the public broadcaster and several other outlets and are worded as reports. Jai Arrow announced his retirement and diagnosis himself on 20 May 2026, as reported by the league’s site and many outlets, and this page says nothing beyond that.
⚠️ One figure was left out because sources disagree. The league’s late-mail article says Daly Cherry-Evans will become the oldest player in grand final history and gives his age as 37 years 183 days, but his listed birth date of 20 February 1989 makes him 37 years 226 days on 4 October 2026. We found no independent second source, so neither the record nor the age is used.
✅ Finals scores were cross-checked between the league’s pages and the public broadcaster’s score centre. Ladder positions (Roosters fourth, Knights seventh) match both. The clubs’ last grand finals (2019 and 2001) are from the league’s preview and agree with an independent reference entry. The third-premiership and 16th-premiership wording is the league’s own.
🔴 No betting odds, spreads, or win-probability models appear anywhere on this page. The league’s match-centre data feed and several previews carry betting content. None of it was used, and no prediction, tip or favourite is stated.
