Key takeaways
  • Citroën revealed the 2 CV Concept at 17:00 GMT on Sunday 11 October 2026, after first confirming the car’s return on 21 May 2026, and is showing it at the Paris Motor Show until 18 October. It previews a future production car, and nothing can be ordered or reserved yet.
  • The only official price is a target. Citroën says the production car should start at around €15,000 and will ‘join the range by 2028’. Auto Express, in its own reporting, puts showroom arrival at the end of 2028.
  • The concept is fully electric, 3.76 m long (shorter than the original 2CV) and kept below one tonne. For the production car, Citroën has given a weight target of about one tonne, European production and a place between the Ami and the C3 / ë-C3.
  • ⚠️ Citroën has not announced the battery size, WLTP range, charging speed, power, platform, a UK price or a UK on-sale date. Any range or power figure you have seen is an estimate.
  • ⚠️ The £12,700 to £13,000 figures in UK coverage are currency conversions of the euro target, not a Citroën UK price. Right-hand drive has not been formally announced, although Top Gear reported in June 2026 that the car will be offered with it.
  • A 2CV Fourgonnette van concept followed on Monday 12 October. Citroën says it does not preview a production model in the short term.

Citroën has revealed the 2 CV Concept, an electric reinvention of its 1948 original, and says the production car it previews will start at around €15,000 and join its range by 2028. That is all Citroën has said officially on price and timing. This is a concept, not a car you can order. Citroën has not published a battery size, range, power output, UK price or UK on-sale date, and it has not formally announced right-hand drive. Everything below was checked at 17:05 UTC (18:05 UK time) on Monday 12 October 2026.

What did Citroën reveal, and when?

Citroën revealed the 2 CV Concept at 17:00 GMT (18:00 UK time) on Sunday 11 October 2026, the day before the 2026 Paris Motor Show opened. The show runs from 12 to 18 October at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Monday 12 October was the press day, and on that day Citroën revealed a second study, a van called the 2CV Fourgonnette concept.

Citroën had already announced the comeback months earlier. Its chief executive, Xavier Chardon, confirmed it on 21 May 2026 at the Stellantis Investor Day in Auburn Hills, Michigan, with the line “The 2CV is back.” The October concept is the first full look at the car.

Citroën writes the name “2 CV”, with a space; most coverage, including our headline, uses 2CV. The original made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1948 and was built until 1990. That explains the “48/90/26” printed on the concept’s windscreen: the year the original launched, the year production ended and the year of the concept. Chardon says reinventing the car “isn’t about replicating a car from the past”.

How much will the new 2CV cost?

Citroën’s target starting price is around €15,000, and that is the only official price. It is a target in euros for the production car due by 2028. It is not a list price.

There is no UK price. UK outlets have converted the euro target into pounds at roughly £12,700 to £13,000: Auto Express and Classic & Sports Car give about £12,700, and Electrifying says roughly £13,000. These are currency conversions, not prices from Citroën UK. Citroën UK’s website promotes the concept, but it shows no price.

We are not going to guess a UK figure either. A sterling price would depend on the UK specification, exchange rates and decisions Citroën has not yet announced.

When will the new 2CV go on sale?

Citroën says the production model will “join the range by 2028”, and it has given no month and no UK date. Auto Express, in its own reporting, says the car will arrive in showrooms by the end of 2028. That date is Auto Express’s, not a Citroën quote.

You can’t order or reserve one. Citroën’s 2 CV concept website offers a sign-up to a fan community, not a reservation. Citroën UK’s homepage links to that website, not to a configurator or an order page.

What is confirmed about the new 2CV so far?

The concept is fully electric, 3.76 m long and kept below one tonne; for the production car, Citroën has given a target price of around €15,000, a weight target of about one tonne, European production and a 2028 timeframe. The concept’s own figures are not a production specification, so the table keeps the two apart.

TimingRevealed 11 Oct 2026Joins the range by 2028
Where builtNot applicableEurope; no factory named
Place in rangeNot applicableBetween the Ami and the C3 / ë-C3

The Ami is Citroën’s small two-seat electric quadricycle, and the C3 / ë-C3 is its supermini. Citroën’s reasoning on weight is that a lighter car can use a smaller, cheaper battery, and that is how it hopes to reach the price. Citroën has not given the battery size.

Some reports in May 2026 named Stellantis’s Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy as the factory. Citroën’s October material says only that the car will be built in Europe.

The car is designed around the EU’s proposed E-Car rules, which would create a category for small, affordable electric cars. Auto Express says those rules are still being negotiated. Citroën has not said what they would mean for a car sold in Britain.

Citroën’s official images and design notes are on its 2 CV concept page .

What details carry over from the original 2CV?

The concept borrows the original’s ideas more than its exact shape, and adds several deliberate nods to the 1948 car. The details reported by at least two outlets are:

  • The front seat pulls out, like the original’s, so it can be used outside the car as a bench for a picnic.
  • The horn and the start-up sound are tuned to sound like the original.
  • The bumpers are separate from the bodywork, so each can be replaced on its own. Flat panels are meant to keep repairs simple.
  • The windscreen carries the “48/90/26” markings.
  • The car runs on Michelin tyres, and Michelin has developed what it calls a “digital twin” of the tyre to monitor its condition.
  • Inside, there is no conventional dashboard, an 8-inch square touchscreen, a removable “Radioën” radio that also works as a portable speaker, a roll-back fabric roof, removable storage baskets, strap-style door handles and Citroën’s Advanced Comfort seats.

These are features of the concept. Citroën has not said which of them will reach the production car; Classic & Sports Car notes that this has not been confirmed. Auto Express says the separate bumpers are one feature Citroën wants to carry over to production.

The concept’s windows don’t open. Auto Express reports that the production car will get wind-down front windows and simple pop-out rear ones.

What has Citroën not announced yet?

Citroën has not announced the battery size, WLTP range, charging speed, motor power, platform, UK price or a UK on-sale date, and it has not formally announced right-hand drive. Buyers usually want these numbers first, and none of them is official yet. Auto Express says no technical specifications have been released.

You’ll see range and power figures in some coverage. They are estimates or speculation, and the outlets that published them label them that way. We are not repeating them as specifications. Until Citroën publishes a range figure, nobody can say how the new 2CV compares with the small electric cars already on sale in Britain.

Will the new 2CV be sold in the UK?

Citroën has not formally announced UK or Irish sales, a UK price or a UK date, but Top Gear reported in June 2026 that the car will be offered with right-hand drive. In that interview, published on 22 June 2026, Top Gear says the new 2CV will be offered in right-hand drive and quotes Chardon replying “Of course.” Electrifying says right-hand drive has “reportedly been considered from the outset”.

Neither is a formal announcement. Citroën’s October reveal material says nothing about right-hand drive, and Citroën UK’s homepage promotes the concept and links to its website without a UK price, specification or date. Promoting a concept is not the same as announcing a UK sale.

Can you see the 2 CV Concept at the Paris Motor Show?

Yes. The concept is being shown at the Paris Motor Show, which is open to the public from Tuesday 13 to Sunday 18 October 2026. Citroën’s own 2 CV event page puts its stand in Hall 4, and the show’s exhibitor list gives Citroën as Stand A41 in Hall 4 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The show’s opening hours, in Paris time (one hour ahead of the UK), are:

DayOpening hours
Tuesday 13 October09:30–20:00
Wednesday 14 October09:30–20:00
Thursday 15 October09:30–20:00

Saturday 17 October09:00–22:00
Sunday 18 October09:00–18:30

On the two late evenings, the last admission is at 21:00.

What is the 2CV Fourgonnette concept?

The 2CV Fourgonnette concept is a van version of the same design, revealed on Monday 12 October, and Citroën says it “does not preview a future production model in the short term”. The name comes from the original 2CV’s commercial van. Citroën describes the new concept as reimagining mobility for professionals, but it has released no specifications or price. CompleteCar.ie reads Citroën’s statement as a sign that a production version is being considered. Citroën has made no commitment.

How we verified this

The price target, timing, length and weight rest on Citroën’s own concept website and on consistent press coverage. Stellantis’s media pages for the October reveal and the May announcement returned HTTP 403 to every tool we tried, so we could not read the press release directly. Citroën’s 2 CV concept website confirms the concept’s 3.76 m length, its 100% electric drivetrain, a concept weight kept below one tonne, and the 2CV Fourgonnette. Every outlet we read gives a target of about €15,000 and a 2028 timeframe, though the wording varies: Motor1, designboom and Electrifying say “around”, Classic & Sports Car says “approximately”, Auto Express says “from as little as”, CompleteCar.ie says “just” and EV Powered says “under”. CompleteCar.ie quotes Citroën’s own phrase “join the range by 2028”. The weight target of about one tonne for the production car is reported by Auto Express and CompleteCar.ie.

“By the end of 2028” is Auto Express’s own statement, not a Citroën quote. Auto Express’s 12 October article says in its own voice that the car will arrive in showrooms by the end of 2028, so the article attributes that date to Auto Express and gives Citroën’s wording as “join the range by 2028”.

Concept figures and production targets are kept apart. The 3.76 m length and the below-one-tonne weight on Citroën’s website describe the concept. Classic & Sports Car says it has not been confirmed how many of the concept’s details will reach the road car, so the table separates the two and the design list is labelled as concept features.

Every pound figure is a currency conversion, and none is a Citroën UK price. Auto Express and Classic & Sports Car convert the euro target to about £12,700; Electrifying converts it to roughly £13,000. Electrifying’s reviewer also gives a higher personal guess, which we leave out because it is a price estimate. Citroën UK’s homepage, checked in a browser on 12 October, promotes the concept and links to the concept website but shows no price. A May 2026 What Car? report about UK pricing is behind a paywall and could not be verified, so it is left out. We do not forecast a UK price.

The list of what Citroën has not announced reflects Citroën’s silence, which outlets confirm. Auto Express says no technical specifications have been released. Electrifying labels its battery, range and charging figures as estimates. EV Powered says no technical details were given. Range and power figures that circulate in coverage are deliberately not repeated.

Right-hand drive is attributed, not stated as fact. Top Gear’s interview with Citroën chief executive Xavier Chardon, published on 22 June 2026, says the new 2CV will be offered in right-hand drive and quotes him saying “Of course”. That is one outlet’s report of an interview remark, not a formal announcement: the October reveal material we could read says nothing about right-hand drive, and Citroën UK has published no UK specification, price or date. Electrifying says right-hand drive has “reportedly” been considered from the outset. A May 2026 Autocar report on the same subject could not be opened at the source, so it is not used.

Each design detail is reported by at least two outlets. The 48/90/26 windscreen markings appear in CompleteCar.ie, Motor1 and designboom. The front seat that pulls out for use outside appears in CompleteCar.ie, Motor1, designboom and Classic & Sports Car. The horn and start-up sound tuned like the original appear in CompleteCar.ie, designboom, EV Powered and Classic & Sports Car. The separately replaceable bumpers appear in CompleteCar.ie, Motor1, designboom and EV Powered. Michelin’s tyre “digital twin” appears in Motor1 and Classic & Sports Car. We left out the wheel size because outlets disagree on it (18 inches against 19).

Single-source and unofficial points are attributed in the text. The production car’s opening windows and Citroën’s wish to carry the bumpers over to production come from Auto Express only. The Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy comes from May 2026 coverage, including EV Powered and the Paris Motor Show’s own news site; Citroën’s October material says only that the car will be built in Europe.

The dates and the stand location were checked against more than one source. The investor day was 21 May 2026: the AFP wire is datelined Auburn Hills that day, and the Paris Motor Show’s news site gives the same date. Some UK coverage is dated 22 May, the day after. Motor1 timestamped its reveal story at 1pm ET on 11 October, which is 17:00 GMT. The show dates, the Monday press day and the public opening hours come from the show’s practical-information page. Hall 4 is given on Citroën’s own 2 CV event page, and the show’s exhibitor list puts Citroën at Stand A41 in Hall 4.

We verified the official product link before using it. https://2cv-concept.citroen.com/en/concept/ returned HTTP 200 at its own URL with the page title “Citroën 2 CV concept: design and a new vision”. As a control, a made-up path on the same site returned 404. Citroën UK’s homepage links to this site.
