NBA 2K27 Release Date: Price, Early Access, Editions & Where to Buy

NBA 2K27 launches on Friday 4 September 2026. That is the date on the box, and for most people it is the wrong one to plan around.

The date that matters is Wednesday 26 August, when early access opens — nine days before launch, and only for people holding a particular kind of pre-order.

When does NBA 2K27 come out?

4 September 2026, physical and digital, worldwide on the same day. 2K’s FAQ puts it plainly: physical and digital versions will be available globally on that date.

It is a Gen 9 release only. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version — 2K states the game will be available on Gen 9 platforms alone, which in practice means PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam for PC.

When does NBA 2K27 early access start?

Wednesday 26 August at 9:00 am PT, running up to nine days before launch. 2K publishes the conversions itself, which saves the arithmetic.

Nine days is the full window, and it only runs that long if you are in from the first morning.

Do you need a specific edition for early access?

Yes — Deluxe or Ultra. Pre-ordering the Standard Edition gets you nothing early. This is the single most misread part of a 2K launch, and it is worth stating as bluntly as 2K’s FAQ does: up to nine days of early access is offered to players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition or the Ultra Edition.

There is a second catch stacked on top. Neither Deluxe nor Ultra is sold on Nintendo Switch 2 — 2K’s FAQ says only the Standard Edition is available there. So a Switch 2 player cannot buy into early access at any price. They start on 4 September with everyone else.

How much does NBA 2K27 cost?

$69.99, $99.99 or $149.99, depending on the edition. The Standard Edition is the same $69.99 on Steam as on the consoles.

Season passes are priced separately on top: a Pro Pass is $9.99, a Hall of Fame Pass is $19.99, upgrading from one to the other is $9.99, and individual level skips are $1.99 each. The Ultra Edition is the only one that includes passes in the box price.

What is in each NBA 2K27 edition?

All three get 10,000 VC for pre-ordering; the money buys virtual currency, early access and season passes. The pre-order bonus itself is identical across editions, which is a useful thing to know before paying more for one.

The Standard Edition at $69.99 is the base game plus that 10,000 VC. It is the only edition sold physically and the only one on Switch 2.

The Deluxe Edition at $99.99 is digital only, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It adds 100,000 VC, up to nine days of early access, a MyTEAM bundle — the full ‘27 Series 1 Team Selection, a Triple Threat Park Free Agent Pack, five Series 1 packs and a 2-hour double-XP coin — and a MyCAREER bundle of skill and Gatorade boosts plus Wembanyama and Caitlin Clark jerseys. 2K notes that all MyTEAM cards and packs in these bundles are unauctionable.

The Ultra Edition at $149.99 is also digital only, on the same three platforms. It carries 135,000 VC instead of 100,000, adds the Season 1 Pro Pass and the Summer Pass covering Seasons 7 to 9, throws in a Roses Oversize Hoodie for MyCAREER, and includes two Exchange cards: a guaranteed 98 OVR available from December 2026 and a guaranteed Invincible from May 2027. Those two arrive at launch as Exchange cards and have to be swapped once The Exchange opens later in the year.

Is the Ultra Edition worth the extra $50?

The season passes alone account for most of the gap, on 2K’s own list prices. This is arithmetic rather than a recommendation, and the numbers are all published.

Ultra costs $50 more than Deluxe. For that you get 35,000 additional VC, the Season 1 Pro Pass, the Summer Pass covering the Season 7, 8 and 9 Pro Passes, the Roses Oversize Hoodie and the two Exchange cards. That is four Pro Passes in total, and a Pro Pass bought on its own is $9.99 — so roughly $40 of the $50 difference is passes you would otherwise buy separately, leaving about $10 against 35,000 VC and the cards.

The catch in that sum is the assumption that you would have bought all four passes anyway. Each pass covers one season, its progress and rewards reset when that season ends, and 2K is explicit that paid passes unlock rewards which are then earned through gameplay rather than granted outright. If you play through one season and stop, three of those four passes are worth nothing to you and the arithmetic inverts.

What the sum does show is that Ultra is priced as a pass bundle rather than as a premium version of the game.

Which platforms is NBA 2K27 on?

Four, but not every edition reaches all four. The split matters more than usual this year because of the early access rule.

Crossplay is narrower still. 2K restricts it to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, so PC and Switch 2 players are outside it, and it requires an NBA 2K account, an internet connection and a paid online console subscription.

On PC, 2K’s recommended specification is Windows 11 64-bit, a Core i5-10600 or Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB of RAM, an RTX 2070 8 GB, RX 5700 8 GB or Arc A770, DirectX 12 and a broadband connection. Clear 110 GB of space before launch night.

Is there a discount for NBA 2K26 players?

Yes, 10% off the Ultra Edition, and it expires on 3 September. 2K offers the loyalty discount to NBA 2K26 players on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam who pre-order NBA 2K27 Ultra on the same platform.

Two conditions attach to it. It runs only through 3 September, and it is available only through the platform store — not through 2K’s own site or a third-party shop. If you are considering Ultra and you owned 2K26, that is a deadline before the launch date, not after it.

Where can you buy NBA 2K27?

On your platform’s own store for any edition, and in shops for the Standard Edition only. Deluxe and Ultra are digital-only products, so the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and Steam are the routes to them; the Standard Edition is the one with a physical release.

2K’s own pre-order page is the hub that routes to each platform, and its FAQ carries the full terms including the regional gaps — Deluxe and Ultra are not sold in Belgium, Brazil or South Korea at all.

One last date to write down if Ultra is what you want: 2K states that the Ultra Edition digital copy is only available until 6 September. It is the one edition with a published end to its sale, two days after the game comes out.
