It is worth knowing the shape of that, because it will not be the last one. A renewal for a show this size would be announced by Paramount+ and carried by the trade press within minutes. If you cannot find it at a trade outlet, it has not happened.

So why does everyone expect it anyway?

Because of something more concrete than optimism.

A writers’ room is already staffing

The season’s antagonist is revealed in the closing scene and is neither caught nor exposed: Aaliyah Amrohi, from Season 1, financing an operation against Joe as revenge for the deaths of her fiancé and her father. Her stated logic was that taking Joe would lead to the rest of the Lioness programme — Cruz Manuelos above all, the operative who befriended and betrayed her.

That leaves three threads open. Aaliyah is alive and unidentified by anyone inside the show. Cruz is the actual target and does not know it. And Joe comes home to an empty house with a for-sale sign, her family gone.

A villain who has not been caught is the strongest argument a drama can make for another season, and this one was constructed to make it.
