Gamescom 2026: Opening Night Live, Schedule & How to Watch

This page has a dated claim that is now due a re-check. The source it was copied from was scheduled to move on 26 August 2026, 0 days ago.

Opening Night Live runs on the evening of 25 August. From 26 August the times on this page describe a show that has already aired, and the rest of gamescom week continues to 30 August without them.

Everything else on the page is unaffected; the figures below still say when they were read.

Key takeaways
  • Opening Night Live is on Tuesday 25 August 2026, hosted by Geoff Keighley from Koelnmesse in Cologne. It opens gamescom week, which runs 24 to 30 August 2026.
  • There are two start times and they are not the same thing. The pre-show begins at 19:30 CEST and the main show at 20:00 CEST — that is 2:00 PM Eastern, 11:00 AM Pacific and 7:00 PM in the UK.
  • The show is expected to end at 22:00 CEST, or 4:00 PM Eastern and 9:00 PM in the UK. Budget about two hours.
  • On-site tickets are sold out. Gamescom says so itself, and points people to the free livestream instead.
  • You can watch on gamescom’s own site or on its official YouTube, Twitch and TikTok channels. No sign-in or purchase is needed.

Opening Night Live starts at 20:00 CEST on Tuesday 25 August — 2:00 PM Eastern, 11:00 AM Pacific, 7:00 PM in the UK. There is a pre-show half an hour before that, at 19:30 CEST, and the two are frequently reported as if they were the same thing.

Tickets for the hall are gone. The stream is free and needs no account.

What time does Gamescom Opening Night Live start?

20:00 CEST for the main show, with a pre-show from 19:30. Gamescom’s own page puts it in a single sentence: “We start the evening with the pre-show at 7:30 p.m., the main show starts at 8:00 p.m. (CEST).”

WherePre-showShowEnds
Cologne19:3020:0022:00
UK6:30 PM7:00 PM9:00 PM
US & Canada, East1:30 PM2:00 PM4:00 PM
US & Canada, West10:30 AM11:00 AM1:00 PM

The US and Canadian rows are combined because in late August the clocks match on both sides of the border — Eastern is Eastern and Pacific is Pacific.

Worth noticing what those times mean in practice. In Cologne this is an evening show. In the UK it is early evening, which is the most comfortable slot of the three. On the US and Canadian east coast it lands in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon, and on the west coast it starts at 11:00 AM — a workday morning. If you are on Pacific time and cannot watch live, the whole thing is over by 1:00 PM, which is lunchtime.

Why do some sites say it starts at 7:30?

Because gamescom’s countdown clock runs to the pre-show, not the show. If you take the countdown on its homepage and work backwards, you land on 19:30 CEST, and that is a real published time — it is simply the pre-show rather than the main event.

Neither number is wrong. If you want the first frame of coverage, tune in at 19:30 CEST (1:30 PM Eastern, 6:30 PM UK). If you want the announcements, 20:00 is the one.

How long is Opening Night Live?

About two hours. Gamescom gives an expected end of 22:00 CEST, which is 4:00 PM Eastern, 1:00 PM Pacific and 9:00 PM in the UK.

That is an expectation rather than a guarantee — these shows overrun — but it is the organiser’s own figure rather than an estimate from past years.

How do you watch Gamescom Opening Night Live?

Free, on gamescom’s own website or its official channels. The livestream runs on gamescom.global, and the same show goes out on its official YouTube, Twitch and TikTok channels. There is no paywall, no sign-in and nothing to buy.

Gamescom also publishes co-streaming information, so a good number of creators will run the feed with their own commentary. That is sanctioned rather than tolerated, which is worth knowing if you would rather watch with reaction.

Which channel you pick barely matters for the video, but it changes everything else. The website stream is the cleanest and the least likely to be interrupted. Twitch gives you chat, which during a trailer-heavy show is either the best or the worst part depending on your tolerance. YouTube is the one to choose if you want to scrub back through a reveal you missed, because the stream stays there afterwards. TikTok’s feed is built for clips rather than a two-hour sit.

Can you still get tickets to attend?

No. Gamescom’s own wording is blunt: all tickets for Opening Night Live 2026 are sold. The page that says so is the same one that points you at the stream instead.

If you already hold one, the on-site details matter: the hall is Koelnmesse Hall 1 with admission via Confex, doors run from 17:45 to 19:30, there is no admission after 19:30, and entry is restricted to people aged 18 and over.

A few more organiser details that catch people out on the night: admission stamps are handed out in the Confex foyer from 14:00 and only until 19:30, seating is first come first served rather than allocated, large bags must go to the free cloakroom, and the booths inside take card payments only. Gamescom recommends arriving by 18:00, which given the 19:30 cut-off is sound advice rather than padding.

When is the rest of Gamescom 2026?

24 to 30 August 2026, in Cologne. Gamescom’s Info page states it plainly: “gamescom week 2026 will take place from August 24 to 30 in Cologne.” Opening Night Live is the Tuesday-evening curtain-raiser rather than a day of the show floor itself.

The week also carries its own programme beyond ONL — the gamescom Award, a cosplay contest, gamescom GDQ, an awesome indies show and a city festival — all listed on the organiser’s programme pages.

The shape of the week is worth understanding if you are following from abroad. Tuesday is Opening Night Live and nothing else public. The show floor opens after that and runs to Sunday, which is when the trade and consumer days sit. So the announcements you will see discussed all week were mostly made on Tuesday evening; the rest of the week is people playing the things that were announced.

What games are involved?

Gamescom features a list of its own, and it is not an ONL running order. Among the titles it highlights for the 2026 event are Honkai: Nexus Anima, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, Marvel Rivals, Gears of War: E-Day, Persona 4 Revival, ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE and others.

The full list gamescom is featuring runs to a dozen: Honkai: Nexus Anima, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, Marvel Rivals, Gears of War: E-Day, Persona 4 Revival, ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Silver Pines, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, STAR WARS Zero Company, Road Kings and Construction Simulator: Evolution.

We are not going to tell you what will be announced on the night. Showcase line-ups leak, get denied and change, and a page that lists rumours as though they were schedule is exactly the kind of thing this site avoids. What is on the record is the time, the length and where to watch — which is what you need to be in front of it.

Who hosts it?

Geoff Keighley, as he has since the show began. He also created The Game Awards and runs Summer Game Fest, which is why the format will feel familiar: a run of trailers and world premieres, punctuated by guests.

That familiarity is the practical point. If you have watched a Game Awards broadcast, you already know the rhythm here — announcements arrive in bursts, the biggest one is usually held back, and the segments between them are where the show loses people who only came for trailers. Knowing that is the difference between watching the whole two hours and dropping in for the last twenty minutes.

One difference from The Game Awards is worth flagging, though: Opening Night Live has no awards to hand out and no acceptance speeches to sit through. It is a showcase from start to finish, which is why two hours is a realistic runtime for it where the December show reliably runs longer.

How we verified this
The times come from gamescom’s own Opening Night Live page, which states them in one sentence: “We start the evening with the pre-show at 7:30 p.m., the main show starts at 8:00 p.m. (CEST).” Everything else on this page is from that page or from gamescom’s Info page. 🔴 A countdown clock is not a start time, and this one nearly cost us the headline. The site runs a live countdown, and deriving the start from it gives 19:30 CEST — which is the pre-show, not the show. The published sentence above is what corrected it. Both times appear here because a reader asking “what time is ONL” may mean either. ✅ Every local time on this page was generated from one CEST source time by a timezone library, not typed by hand. The check script re-derives all of them and fails if a stored value does not match, so an edit cannot quietly introduce a wrong clock time. ✅ US and Canadian times are identical here, which is why one row serves both. In late August, Eastern and Pacific offsets are the same on both sides of the border. That is asserted in the check rather than assumed. ⚠️ A status code proves nothing on gamescom.global. An invented path on that host returns HTTP 200 with a full page, so every fact here was taken from rendered content on the specific page that states it. ⚠️ The photograph is a generic esports arena, not Koelnmesse. It is illustrative and no claim is made that it shows the Opening Night Live venue. ⚠️ We are not listing what will be announced. The game titles named below are the ones gamescom itself features on its site for the wider event; they are not a leaked ONL running order, and this page carries no rumours.
