From on Netflix: A Spoiler-Free Review, Plus Where to Watch Season 4

- From is an MGM+ original, not a Netflix original. It premiered on Epix, now MGM+, on February 20, 2022, and Seasons 1 to 3 (30 episodes) arrived on Netflix in the US on October 19, 2026.
- ⚠️ Season 4 (10 episodes, April 19 to June 28, 2026) streams only on MGM+. Star Harold Perrineau posted on October 13 that Seasons 1 to 4 were coming, but as of October 28, 2026, neither Netflix nor Amazon MGM Studios had confirmed Season 4 for Netflix.
- Critics praise Harold Perrineau’s lead performance, the genuine scares and gore, and the setup. The recurring complaints are slow mystery-box pacing, Lost comparisons, thinly drawn characters, frustrating choices and uneven momentum.
- On Rotten Tomatoes, critics’ scores for Seasons 1 to 4 are 96%, 93%, 100% and 96%, while audience scores fall from 87% to 63% (read October 28, 2026).
- ‘From: Season 1’ was No. 1 on Netflix’s US Top 10 TV list for October 19 to 25, 2026, and No. 7 on the global English-language TV list, with 2.9 million views.
- ⚠️ Season 5 is the final season. MGM+ says it is expected to premiere in 2027, and no date has been announced.
From is an MGM+ horror series, not a Netflix original, and it is worth starting if you can live with a slow-burn mystery: critics consistently praise Harold Perrineau’s lead performance and the show’s genuine scares, and their main complaint is how slowly the answers come. Seasons 1 to 3, 30 episodes in all, arrived on Netflix in the US on Monday, October 19, 2026. Season 4 streams only on MGM+.
This review is spoiler-free: the only plot it covers is the Season 1 setup. Netflix availability, charts and review scores were checked at around 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Is From worth watching?
Yes, if you like horror that takes its time: From pairs a terrific lead performance and real scares with a mystery that is in no hurry to explain itself. Here is how it shapes up across four seasons of reviews.
Harold Perrineau is the reason to stay. As Boyd Stevens, the town’s self-appointed sheriff, he is both the show’s authority figure and one of its most haunted characters, and he is the one element that reviews of every season single out. When the writing sags, he holds the show up.
The scares are real, and so is the gore. The creatures look human, grin, and come out of the forest after dark asking to be let in, and the show is unusually graphic about what happens when they get their way. Later seasons add psychological horror to the mix without making the monsters any less frightening.
The setup is a great hook. There is a town that no road leads out of, a set of rules for surviving the night, and two communities with opposite answers to the same nightmare: the town, where people live by strict rules for the good of everyone, and Colony House, where they live for today. That clash over how to cope gives the show more to chew on than its monsters alone.
The mystery box is slow to open. Season 1 spends a long time laying out how the town works, and every answer tends to arrive with new questions attached. If you need a mystery to pay off on a schedule, From will test you.
Not every character earns their screen time. Early on, the newcomers mostly exist to have the rules explained to them, some supporting players are thin, and one new arrival’s insistence that the whole thing must be a hoax grows tiresome quickly. Characters’ choices can be maddening, and for much of the run they keep what they learn to themselves, a long-standing complaint among viewers.
Its momentum comes and goes. Some stretches circle the same arguments without moving forward, and even the show’s admirers wonder how long it can keep raising questions faster than it answers them.
It gets more confident. The broad critical view is that From grows into itself: Season 3 is often singled out as the point where it finds its footing, and Season 4 has the highest average critic rating of the four. Viewers have cooled over the same stretch, as the scores below show.
Our take: start it, and let Season 1 decide. If the town, its rules and Perrineau have hooked you by the end of those 10 episodes, the critical consensus is that the show becomes more assured over its run, and it now has a confirmed end point: Season 5 will be the last. If the drip-feed of answers is already wearing on you by then, weigh this: early reviews of Season 4, written from its first six episodes, ranged from calling it the most answer-focused season yet to calling it a necessary but repetitive step back. Fans of Lost, The Twilight Zone or small-town Stephen King horror are the obvious audience.
Is From a Netflix original?
No: From is an MGM+ original that has been licensed to Netflix in the US, not a show Netflix made. It premiered on Epix, which has since become MGM+, on February 20, 2022. It is an MGM+ Studios production, Paramount Global Content Distribution handles its international distribution, and MGM+ calls it the most-viewed series in the network’s history. MGM+ is part of Amazon MGM Studios.
John Griffin created From, Jeff Pinkner is the showrunner, and Jack Bender directs and executive produces. Perrineau is an executive producer too, as are Joe and Anthony Russo of AGBO. Netflix’s own Tudum site confirmed on October 19, 2026, that the first three seasons are now streaming on Netflix.
The Netflix connection goes back further. According to What’s on Netflix, when the series was first announced in 2021, Netflix was lined up to distribute it outside the US as a Netflix Original. That did not happen as planned: Season 1 instead ran on Netflix as a licensed title in at least nine countries from April 2024, and it has since left.
What is From about?
From follows people trapped in a small town in middle America that no one who enters can leave, where creatures that look human come out of the forest after dark. In Season 1, the Matthews family, Tabitha and Jim and their children Julie and Ethan, are on a road trip when a fallen tree blocks their route. The detour takes them into a dusty old town whose sheriff, Boyd Stevens, points them back toward the highway, but every road leads back to the town. A self-assured newcomer, Jade Herrera, gets stuck there soon after.
The people who already live there have learned the rules the hard way. Everyone is indoors by nightfall, and stone talismans hung by the doors keep the creatures out. The residents are split into two groups: those in the town proper, home to the sheriff’s station, the diner, the church and the clinic, and those at Colony House, a run-down mansion on the edge of town that Donna Raines runs as a commune. Nobody knows how long the town has been trapping people, or why, and that is the mystery the series is built around.
Who is in the cast of From?
Harold Perrineau leads the cast as Boyd Stevens, with Catalina Sandino Moreno and Eion Bailey as Tabitha and Jim Matthews. These are the main Season 1 characters as Netflix introduces them, described only as they are at the start of the show.
- Boyd Stevens, played by Harold Perrineau: the town’s self-appointed sheriff.
- Tabitha Matthews, played by Catalina Sandino Moreno: a mother on a family road trip.
- Jim Matthews, played by Eion Bailey: Tabitha’s husband.
- Julie Matthews, played by Hannah Cheramy: their teenage daughter.
- Ethan Matthews, played by Simon Webster: their young son.
- Jade Herrera, played by David Alpay: a self-assured tech type who gets trapped just after the Matthews.
- Donna Raines, played by Elizabeth Saunders: the no-nonsense leader of Colony House.
- Victor, played by Scott McCord: the town’s longest-standing resident.
- Ellis Stevens, played by Corteon Moore: Boyd’s estranged son, who lives at Colony House.
- Fatima Hassan, played by Pegah Ghafoori: Ellis’s partner.
- Kenny Liu, played by Ricky He: Boyd’s deputy.
- Kristi Miller, played by Chloe Van Landschoot: the town doctor.
- Father Khatri, played by Shaun Majumder: the town priest.
- Sara Myers, played by Avery Konrad: a young woman who lives in town with her brother, Nathan.
Later seasons bring in new arrivals. We have left them out, because who turns up is part of the story.
How scary and violent is From?
Very: From is rated TV-MA, and its violence is graphic and gory, so it is not one for younger viewers. MGM+ lists the series as TV-MA, the US TV rating for programs designed for adults that may be unsuitable for children under 17. The creatures’ attacks are shown in grisly detail, the first episode features a nighttime attack in a family home and lingers on the aftermath, and the language is strong. Later seasons lean further into psychological horror on top of the gore. If that sounds like your kind of night in, the show is squarely aimed at you.
What do critics and viewers think of From?
Critics have been positive about every season and warmer as the show went on, while audience scores have fallen season by season. In the table, Critics is Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, the share of approved critics’ reviews that are positive, with the number of reviews in parentheses. Audience is the Popcornmeter, the share of viewer ratings that are positive. Both were read on October 28, 2026.
| Season | Critics | Audience |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (2022) | 96% (25) | 87% |
| 2 (2023) | 93% (15) | 80% |
| 3 (2024) | 100% (25) | 73% |
| 4 (2026) | 96% (20) | 63% |
The critics’ average rating on Rotten Tomatoes has risen every season: 6.8 out of 10 for Season 1, then 7.3, 8.2 and 8.5 for Season 4. Audience scores moved the other way, from 87% to 63%.
Metacritic, which turns reviews into a weighted score out of 100, has a Metascore only for Season 1: 63 from seven critics, a band it labels generally favorable, with two of those reviews positive and five mixed. Seasons 2 to 4 have fewer than the four reviews Metacritic needs for a score. Taken with Season 1’s 6.8 average on Rotten Tomatoes, that suggests the first season’s reviews were positive but measured rather than raves. None of these numbers is a score for the whole series.
One caveat applies to all the critics’ numbers. Many reviews were written from the first four to six episodes of a season, sent to critics in advance, so they speak more to how a season starts than to how it ends.
Is From like Lost?
In a lot of ways, yes: From shares its star and two key producers with Lost, and the comparison has followed it from the start. Harold Perrineau starred in Lost, and showrunner Jeff Pinkner and director and executive producer Jack Bender both worked on it. Like Lost, From is a mystery box: strangers stuck somewhere impossible, flashbacks to the lives they had before, and questions that multiply faster than answers. Creator John Griffin also wrote for the 2019 revival of The Twilight Zone, another show critics often reach for as a reference point.
The comparison cuts both ways. Early reviews often called Season 1 derivative, of Lost and of Stephen King-style small-town horror, and found some of its characters to be stock types. By the later seasons, critics were more likely to judge it on its own terms, and the question they kept coming back to was whether it has a plan for its ending. With Season 5 confirmed as the last, it now has a fixed point to land on.
Which seasons of From are on Netflix?
Seasons 1 to 3, 30 episodes in all, have been on Netflix in the US since Monday, October 19, 2026; Season 4 is not on Netflix. The table shows the year each season first aired, the network it aired on, and whether it was on Netflix in the US as of October 28, 2026. Every season so far has 10 episodes.
| Season | Aired | Netflix US |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2022, Epix | Yes |
| 2 | 2023, MGM+ | Yes |
| 3 | 2024, MGM+ | Yes |
| 4 | 2026, MGM+ | No |
Netflix’s Top 10 ranks each season separately, and the first one took off straight away. “From: Season 1” was No. 1 on Netflix’s official US Top 10 TV list for the week of October 19 to 25, 2026, its first week on the list, ahead of Netflix’s own Nobody Wants This Season 3. On Netflix’s global Top 10 for English-language TV that week, it was No. 7, with 2.9 million views. Netflix calculates views by dividing hours watched by runtime: Season 1 runs about 8 hours 20 minutes, and it drew 24.3 million hours that week.
How long it stays is unclear. What’s on Netflix, which tracks the service’s catalog, describes the US deal as a limited-time licensing window, and no end date had been published as of October 28.
Where can you watch From Season 4?
In the US, From Season 4 streams only on MGM+, which carries all four seasons. Its 10 episodes aired from April 19 to June 28, 2026. These are the ways to get MGM+:
- Subscribe to MGM+ directly.
- Add MGM+ as a channel through another service. Decider’s October 27 roundup lists Prime Video Channels on Amazon, YouTube, Philo, Fubo, DirecTV and Sling TV.
- Add it to a cable or satellite package, if your provider offers it.
On October 27, 2026, Decider listed MGM+ at $7.99 a month, or $5.17 a month on an annual plan, with a seven-day free trial. Add-on prices and trial terms vary by service, so check the price before you sign up.
⚠️ Spoiler warning: if you have already finished all four seasons, our From Season 4 finale explainer breaks down the ending. It gives away major twists from Season 4 and the seasons before it, so save it until you have caught up.
Will From Season 4 come to Netflix?
Not officially: as of October 28, 2026, neither Netflix nor Amazon MGM Studios had announced whether or when Season 4 will join Netflix. Harold Perrineau posted on X on October 13 that Seasons 1 to 4 were coming to Netflix in October, but only Seasons 1 to 3 arrived on October 19, and neither company has confirmed Season 4. Treat any Season 4 date you see elsewhere as a guess. For now, MGM+ is the only place to stream it in the US.
When is From Season 5 coming out?
Season 5 will be the last, and MGM+ says only that it is expected to premiere in 2027; no date has been announced. MGM+ announced the fifth and final season on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, four days before Season 4 premiered, and said production would take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, later that year. What’s on Netflix reports that filming began in July. In a joint statement, Griffin, Pinkner and Bender said the renewal gives them the chance to see the story through to its conclusion.
Can you watch From on Netflix outside the US?
Not yet: What’s on Netflix’s listings show From only on Netflix US for now, and the site reports that more regions, including the UK and Canada, get it on Tuesday, November 24, 2026. The other countries on its November 24 list are France, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, India and Belgium, and the site says the list may not be complete. That comes from the site’s reading of Netflix’s listings rather than a Netflix announcement, and as of October 28 it had not found the show scheduled for Australia, Germany, Spain or Latin America. Check your local Netflix listing nearer the date.
