Only to find there is no one there, at least not that they can see. The next day the bodies of the officers are found, a brutal crime. This is the start of a series of terrifying murders, all seemingly targeting police officers.”
George Kay describes the show as something other than a procedural: “At its heart, Blood Sacrifice is a love story between an estranged father and son duo, whose work draws them back together - all wrapped up inside a dark, adrenalised Scandi noir crime drama.” That framing matters, because the father-and-son thread carries as much of the running time as the investigation does.

Blood Sacrifice ending explained
The killer is a serving police officer, and the reason he became one is a cover-up inside the force.

What both accounts state:
- The killer is Peter Johansson.
- His partner Hugo Brankovic died on a call, and Peter’s request for backup left no record.
- Peter was blamed as a coward who abandoned his partner.
- Police chief Lucas Lind was the one who handled the radio that night and erased the record.
- The finale turns on a confrontation involving Peter, Alfred and Thomas.
The shape of it, then, is that the season’s murders are revenge for an institutional failure rather than the work of an outsider. Peter’s partner died on a call; Peter radioed for help; the record of that call did not exist afterwards, and he was recast as the coward who let his partner die. The man who erased it was the one who went on to run the force.
What details are less certain?
These appear in one of the two accounts rather than both, so they are listed separately rather than folded into the section above:
- Hugo died in 2024 on a domestic-abuse call in Järfälla, stabbed by the husband.
- Peter struck on Fridays at 1:15 AM, the time of the call that ruined him.
- He used each victim’s last words to make the next distress call.
- Carl Larsson’s painting Midwinter Sacrifice is the motif; Alma is Hugo’s widow.
- Alfred wrongly pursued a suspect named Anders Palm.
None of that contradicts the corroborated version — it is additional colour, and it may be entirely accurate. It simply rests on a single reading, and a page that blurs the two is a page you cannot check.
The painting detail is the one worth chasing if you watch it, because it is the sort of thing a series either earns or does not. A motif borrowed from a real work hanging in a real museum can carry a killer’s logic elegantly or can be a costume on top of an ordinary revenge plot, and which of those it is here is a judgement the recaps do not settle for you.
