Black Ops 2 on PS5: The Discount, Price, Maps and DLC Packs Explained

Key takeaways
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 arrived on PS5 (and PS4) on July 9, 2026 as a brand-new native port — the first time the 2012 game has been on a PlayStation other than the PS3. It is a port, not a remaster: same 2012 visuals, locked 60fps.
  • It costs £34.99 / $39.99, discounted 50% to £17.49 / $19.99 for anyone with an active PlayStation Plus subscription. That offer ends August 6, 2026, after which it returns to full price. The separate Season Pass is $29.99, cut 67% to $9.89 with PS Plus over the same window.
  • The base purchase includes the Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, but not the DLC. Several features were cut: League Play, Theater Mode and the live player count are gone, field of view is locked at 80, and there is no 120fps mode.
  • There is no crossplay with Xbox, PC or PS3, and the PS4 and PS5 versions are separate purchases that don’t even share lobbies. Nothing carries over from a PS3 copy — no progression, and old PS3 DLC doesn’t unlock anything.

After fourteen years, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has finally landed on PlayStation 5. It arrived on July 9, 2026 with barely any warning — and it’s on sale immediately. But there’s a lot of fine print worth knowing before you buy: it’s a straight port rather than a remaster, some modes have been cut, the DLC isn’t included, and the discount has a deadline. Here’s the real price, everything you get, all 31 multiplayer maps, and the four DLC packs. All prices checked on July 10, 2026 — store prices change, so confirm before you buy.

Is Black Ops 2 on PS5?

Yes — but not the way most people assume. This is not backward compatibility. The PS5 has no backward compatibility with PS3 games, so your old Black Ops 2 disc or PS3 digital copy will not run on a PS5, and it never will.

Instead, Activision released a brand-new native PS5 and PS4 port of the 2012 game on July 9, 2026 — handled by developer Iron Galaxy. It’s the first time Black Ops 2 has appeared on any PlayStation console other than the PS3, and buying this new port is the only way to play it on a PS5. (Black Ops 1 launched alongside it the same day.)

Crucially, it is a port, not a remaster. Activision has been explicit about this: expect the same 2012 assets and visual fidelity, now running at a locked 60fps. There’s no graphical overhaul, so ignore any “Black Ops 2 Remastered” headlines — that isn’t what this is.

Black Ops 2 PS5 price and the PS Plus discount

WhatFull priceWith PlayStation PlusOffer ends
Black Ops 2 (base game)£34.99 / $39.99£17.49 / $19.99 (50% off)August 6, 2026
Season Pass (all DLC)$29.99$9.89 (67% off)August 6, 2026

A few things the store page won’t shout at you:

  • The discount requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription. No PS Plus, no discount — you pay the full £34.99 / $39.99.
  • The base game is 50% off; the Season Pass is a steeper 67% off. They are different discounts, not one blanket sale.
  • Both offers end August 6, 2026, after which prices revert to full.
  • Season Pass pricing above is the US figure; UK pricing differs, so check the PlayStation Store for your region.
  • Buying both Black Ops 1 and 2 with both Season Passes works out to roughly $139.96 at full price, or about $59.76 with PS Plus during the sale window.

What you get — and what’s been cut

The base purchase gets you the full three-mode package: the single-player Campaign, competitive Multiplayer, and co-op Zombies. What it does not include is any of the DLC map packs — those are a separate purchase.

But “full game” needs an asterisk. Several things from the 2012 original are missing from the new port:

  • League Play has been removed.
  • Theater Mode is gone.
  • The live player count display is gone.
  • Field of view is locked at 80 — there’s no FOV slider.
  • There’s no 120fps mode; the port is locked to 60fps.

None of these are dealbreakers for a campaign or Zombies player, but competitive multiplayer veterans will notice.

No crossplay, no cross-buy, no carryover

This is the section most likely to catch people out:

  • No crossplay. You cannot play with friends on Xbox, PC or PS3.
  • PS4 and PS5 are separate purchases, with no cross-buy and no free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade — and the two versions don’t even share lobbies, splitting the player base.
  • Nothing carries over from PS3. Your old level and Prestige don’t transfer; you start again at Level 1. Owning the game or its DLC on PS3 gets you no discount and unlocks nothing here.
  • Owning the Season Pass puts you in DLC-owner lobbies, which fragments an already modest population further.

Every Black Ops 2 multiplayer map

The base game shipped with 14 multiplayer maps:

MapSetting
AftermathDowntown Los Angeles, post drone-attack
CargoSingapore shipping port
CarrierA Chinese supercarrier at sea
DroneHidden drone facility, Myanmar jungle
ExpressLos Angeles bullet-train station
HijackedA luxury super-yacht — tight and frantic
MeltdownPakistani nuclear power plant
OverflowFlooded Pakistani street

SlumsA rundown district of Panama
StandoffChina–Kyrgyzstan border town

Add the 16 maps from the four DLC packs and the pre-order bonus map Nuketown 2025, and Black Ops 2 has 31 multiplayer maps in total. One caveat: Nuketown 2025 was originally a pre-order-only bonus, and Activision hasn’t confirmed whether it’s included in the 2026 port — so don’t count on it.

(Don’t confuse Nuketown 2025, a multiplayer map, with Nuketown Zombies, a separate Zombies map that came with the Season Pass.)

The four DLC map packs

Each pack added four multiplayer maps plus one Zombies map. They originally cost $14.99 each in 2013, launching on Xbox 360 first and arriving on PS3 and PC about a month later.

Revolution also introduced the Peacekeeper SMG — Call of Duty’s first-ever DLC weapon — and the “Turned” Zombies mode. Vengeance brought the Ray Gun Mark II, later patched into every Zombies map.

On the PS5 port, the DLC is sold as the $29.99 Season Pass ($9.89 with PS Plus), which bundles all four packs — that’s 16 multiplayer maps, four DLC Zombies maps, and the bonus Nuketown Zombies map. We couldn’t confirm that the four packs are sold individually on PS5, so the Season Pass looks like the only route.

Mob of the Dead (Alcatraz, with a voice cast including Ray Liotta and Michael Madsen) and Origins (dieselpunk WWI France) are widely regarded as two of the best Zombies maps ever made, and they’re the main reason the Season Pass tempts people.

Is the online any good in 2026?

Honestly, it’s a mixed picture, and worth knowing before you buy for multiplayer.

Black Ops 2 never relied on dedicated servers for multiplayer — it uses matchmaking with player-hosted lobbies, and those services are still running. On Xbox, the backward-compatible version has the healthiest console population but a long, largely unaddressed problem with hacked and modded lobbies. On PC, the original Steam build carries a genuinely serious risk: remote code execution through malicious lobby hosts, which is why many PC players use third-party clients with dedicated servers instead.

As for the new PS5 port, Treyarch and Iron Galaxy haven’t disclosed anything about its server infrastructure or anti-cheat. Given the franchise’s legacy-title track record, that’s a real unknown — and with no crossplay and a PS4/PS5 lobby split, population is the other question mark. If you’re buying primarily for the Campaign and Zombies, none of this matters much. If you’re buying for competitive multiplayer, go in with your eyes open.

Where else can you play Black Ops 2?

  • Xbox: backward compatible since April 11, 2017, and it runs on Xbox Series X|S. Still sold on the Microsoft Store (the original 2012 build, not the new port).
  • PC: the 2012 version is on Steam and Battle.net. Steam’s US list price is $59.99, though it’s discounted often.
  • PS3: the original release, on disc and digitally.

Note that the new native port is PS4 and PS5 only — Activision has announced no Xbox, PC or Switch version of it.

Is Black Ops 2 on PS5?

Yes. A native PS5 and PS4 port released on July 9, 2026. It is not backward compatibility — the PS5 cannot run PS3 games, so this new port is the only way to play Black Ops 2 on a PS5.

How much is Black Ops 2 on PS5?

£34.99 / $39.99 at full price, or £17.49 / $19.99 with an active PlayStation Plus subscription — a 50% discount running until August 6, 2026. The Season Pass is $29.99, or $9.89 with PS Plus (67% off) over the same period.

Does the PS5 version of Black Ops 2 include the DLC?

No. The base game includes the Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies only. The four DLC map packs come via the separate Season Pass.

How many maps does Black Ops 2 have?

31 multiplayer maps in total: 14 base maps, 16 from the four DLC packs, and the pre-order bonus map Nuketown 2025 (whose inclusion in the 2026 port is unconfirmed). Zombies has eight maps and modes across the base game and DLC.

Is there crossplay in Black Ops 2 on PS5?

No. There’s no crossplay with Xbox, PC or PS3, and the PS4 and PS5 versions don’t share lobbies with each other.

Is Black Ops 2 on PS5 a remaster?

No. Activision has confirmed it’s a straight port, not a remaster — the same 2012 visuals running at a locked 60fps.
