Crunchyroll streams Season 2 outside Japan, with new episodes weekly on Saturdays in Japanese with English subtitles. Per Crunchyroll’s announcement, that covers North, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is the only international platform announced so far, and we found no official Netflix or Hulu date for Season 2.
In Japan, the official site lists streaming from October 4 at noon JST on Anime Times, Lemino, U-NEXT and Anime Houdai, with a wider rollout on October 8 that includes Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu. Those are Japanese services and listings, and they do not apply to viewers in the US.
Is Black Clover Season 2 a continuation or a reboot?
It is a continuation, not a reboot: the original series ran 170 episodes from October 3, 2017, to March 30, 2021, and Season 2 begins at episode 171. The official site labels the premiere Page 171, which is the anime’s own episode label, not a manga chapter. The official name is Season 2 even though English home media split the first run into four seasons.
Crunchyroll’s season description frames the new run as the Magic Knights’ raid on the Spade Kingdom to rescue their squad captains from the Dark Triad. Episode 1 is titled Kaisen (開戦), which outlets translate several ways, including The Battle Begins and War Begins. The official synopsis says the Magic Knights are preparing that rescue while Asta and Yuno train. We are staying with that and nothing more. An early theatrical preview ran in select US theaters on September 21, 2026, through Crunchyroll’s Anime Nights program, and that screening has passed.
How do I catch up before Season 2 starts?
The cleanest way to catch up is to watch the original series from episode 1, which is 170 episodes, or roughly 68 hours at about 24 minutes an episode. Crunchyroll simulcast the original run, and Funimation’s English dub began airing on Toonami on December 2, 2017. Streaming-availability listings checked on October 3, 2026, showed the original series on Crunchyroll and Hulu in the US, with Netflix listing some of it depending on plan. Those listings change often, so check each service before you plan a binge.
The 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, directed by Season 2’s director, premiered on Netflix and in Japanese theaters in June 2023 and is listed on Netflix in the US as of October 3, 2026. We found no official statement that it is required viewing.
Who is making Black Clover Season 2?
Studio Pierrot animates Season 2 under director Ayataka Tanemura, who directed episodes 153 to 170 of the original series and the 2023 film. Per the official site, series composition is by Keiichiro Ochi, character design by Itsuko Takeda and music by Minako Seki, based on Yuki Tabata’s original work. In the Japanese cast, Gakuto Kajiwara voices Asta, Nobunaga Shimazaki voices Yuno and Junichi Suwabe voices Yami. The opening theme is Kienai Riyu (The Reason It Won’t Fade Away) by WANIMA, and the ending theme is Yellow Brick Road by ONE OR EIGHT.
How many episodes will it run, and is there an English dub?
No episode count or cour structure has been officially announced, and an English dub is listed as planned but without a date. Some outlets have floated 24 to 26 episodes and even called it the final season, but neither the official site nor Crunchyroll has said so. Reports citing Crunchyroll’s release calendar list an English dub with its release date still to be announced, and no dub cast had been named as of October 3, 2026.
What should I double-check before pressing play?
Confirm the local time on your own Crunchyroll schedule, because the exact release time was announced only on October 2 and schedules can change. The two lines in this guide most likely to change are the English dub date and any official episode count. We will refresh them once Crunchyroll or the production committee says more.
