The Last House, in its first week on the chart. It took the top spot on the global list and the US list simultaneously, with 27.5 million views globally.

The scale of that lead is the story. The No. 2 title, 72 HOURS, drew 11.1 million — meaning The Last House alone accounted for roughly two-fifths of all viewing across the entire global top ten.

What are the top 10 movies on Netflix this week?

Here is the global chart in full, for 3-9 August 2026. Views are in millions, and the weeks column is how long each title has been on this chart.

Two things stand out beyond the leader.

Both Spider-Man films are on the chart at once, at Nos. 3 and 4, separated by 100,000 views. That is the catalogue effect Netflix relies on: one title lands, and viewers work through the rest of the series.

Which movies are big globally but not in the US?

Three titles chart worldwide and do not appear in the American top ten at all. The reverse is also true, so the two lists overlap on only seven of ten.

The most striking of those is KPop Demon Hunters, sitting at No. 6 globally with 3.3 million views — and nowhere on the US chart. It is the clearest case on this week’s lists of a title whose audience is somewhere other than America. Here is the American top ten in full. Netflix does not publish view counts for country charts, so this list is ranked without them.

What does “27.5 million views” actually mean?

Not 27.5 million people. Netflix defines a view as “the number of hours viewed divided by the total run time”, which is a measure of time spent rather than of humans.

Two consequences follow, and both are in Netflix’s own explanation of the metric:

• Rewatches count. Watching a film twice contributes twice.
• Unfinished viewing counts. Netflix deliberately rejected measuring only members who finish a title, so an abandoned attempt still adds to the total.

Netflix’s stated reason for dividing by runtime is to stop longer titles gaining an automatic advantage and to let people compare films with series despite different lengths.

So the honest reading of 27.5 million is a very large amount of time was spent on this film, not 27.5 million people watched it and liked it.

Which of these has lasted the longest?

KPop Demon Hunters, at 60 weeks on the global chart — and nothing else on either list is past 18. That gap is not close either.

If you are choosing between an opening-week release and something with a track record, staying power is the one quality signal on this chart that does not require anyone’s opinion. A film in its 60th week has survived every new arrival for more than a year.

Note that Minions appears twice with different figures. Each chart counts weeks on that chart, so a title accumulates them separately in each market — 18 in the US, 15 globally. Both are Netflix’s own numbers.

Every Tuesday, covering the previous Monday to Sunday. Netflix’s own explainer states that it measures viewing “over the course of a week, starting on Monday and ending on Sunday with the lists being published on Tuesday”.

That means the rankings on this page — for 3-9 August, published 11 August — stand for the rest of this week. It also means any list you see described as updating daily is describing something other than Netflix’s official weekly Top 10.

Pick by what the chart can actually tell you, which is newness, staying power and whether you are partway through a series already.

• If you want the thing everyone is talking about this week — The Last House. First week, No. 1 in both markets, and by a distance.
• If you want something already proven — KPop Demon Hunters, on the strength of 60 weeks. It is the only title here whose popularity has been tested against a year of competition.
• If you have started one Spider-Man — both Homecoming and Far from Home are on the global chart together, so the sequel is there when you want it.
• If you want a recent Netflix original that is not horror — A Toxic Love Story at No. 5, in its third week on both charts.

What this list cannot tell you is which is the better film. It ranks time spent, and this week the biggest number belongs to a horror release that has been available for seven days.
