Labor Day 2026 is Monday 7 September and the sales end with it. From 8 September every price on this page is a past price and the ’ending soon’ framing is spent. The buy/skip reasoning survives the date; the prices do not.

What Labor Day is actually good for
Labor Day is not a general-purpose sale event. It is a specific point in the retail calendar — the end of summer, ahead of the autumn stock arriving — and the discounts that are genuinely worth having reflect that.

The common thread is seasonal clearance. Where a retailer needs the shelf back, the discount is real. Where it does not, the discount is usually a marketing number.
What to skip
Apple hardware, this week specifically. Apple’s event is on Wednesday 9 September, two days after Labor Day. Buying a current-generation Apple product in a sale that ends 48 hours before Apple announces its replacements is the most avoidable mistake available this weekend.
That does not automatically mean the discounts are bad — a discounted current model can be exactly right if you do not want the new one. It means you are making that choice with two days left to wait, and most people buying on Monday do not realise Wednesday is coming.
Televisions. Labor Day TV deals are real but they are not the year’s best. The two better moments are Black Friday and the run-up to the Super Bowl. Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November — eleven weeks away.
Laptops. The back-to-school season has just ended, which means the aggressive laptop pricing has just ended with it. Black Friday is the next genuine event.
Winter gear. It is the wrong end of the season. Coats, boots and heaters are at their most expensive relative to what they will cost in February.

Those three dates are the whole framework. Anything in a seasonal-clearance category, buy now. Anything Apple, wait two days and then decide. Anything electronic and expensive, the calendar says eleven weeks.
What is actually discounted right now
Re-checked on Sunday 6 September — the last full day before the holiday. Prices below will not stay true past Monday. They are here to show what the discounts look like, not as recommendations.

One of those moved, and it is the one this page warned about. The AirTag 2 was $24 when we first checked on 3 September; it is now $20 each, which 9to5Toys describes as an all-time low. That is the whole argument for not trusting an undated deal price — three days moved it 17%.
Best Buy launched its sale on the Monday and added fresh offers on Friday; Amazon’s event is still running. Best Buy also lists open-box iPhone Air up to $359 off.
Two rows from the original table — the AirTag 2 four-pack at $80 and AirPods 4 at $99 — are not repeated here because we could not re-confirm them on 6 September. They may well still be live; we just did not verify them today, and an unverified price in a table headed “re-checked” would defeat the point of re-checking.
A note on those Apple prices, and it is sharper than it was on Wednesday. These are discounts on current Apple hardware two days before an Apple event — but the risk is not uniform across the lineup. 9to5Toys says it is “very much not expecting Apple to update its pro buds to the next-generation this month”, which makes the AirPods Pro 3 discount a fairly safe one. An iPhone discount two days before an iPhone event is a different proposition entirely.
Is Labor Day a good time to buy a mattress?
Yes — it is one of the strongest mattress sale events of the year.
Mattress retailers run their deepest discounting around Presidents Day, Labor Day and Black Friday. If you need a mattress now, this weekend is a legitimate moment rather than a manufactured one. The usual caution applies to the “was” price: mattress list prices are famously elastic, so compare across two or three retailers rather than trusting a single percentage.
Should I buy a TV during Labor Day sales?
Probably not, unless you need one this week.
Labor Day TV pricing is decent but it is not the floor. The two better windows are Black Friday — 27 November 2026 — and the weeks before the Super Bowl, when retailers compete hardest on big screens. Eleven weeks is a long time to wait for a better price, but on a large television the gap is usually worth it.
When do Labor Day sales end?
Most end on Labor Day itself, Monday 7 September 2026.
A few retailers extend into the Tuesday, and clearance on summer stock continues in a quieter way for weeks afterwards as the shelf space is reclaimed. But the advertised event, and the best of the pricing, closes with the holiday.
Why does Apple’s event matter for a Labor Day sale?
Because it is two days later, on Wednesday 9 September 2026.
New Apple hardware announcements do two things to prices: the outgoing model usually gets cheaper, and the new model resets what you are comparing against. Buying an Apple product at a Labor Day discount on Monday means committing 48 hours before you can see what you were choosing between. If you would be happy with the current model regardless, the discount is real. If you would feel differently on Thursday, wait until Thursday.
The bottom line
Labor Day is a seasonal clearance event, and it is genuinely good at being one. Mattresses, appliances, outdoor furniture, grills and summer stock are all cheaper now for a structural reason rather than a marketing one.
Everything else is a calendar question, and the calendar is unusually clear this year. Apple announces on Wednesday. Black Friday is 27 November. If what you want is electronic and expensive, those two dates matter more than any percentage on a banner this weekend.
