The Black Flag Sequel Is a Comic: Release Date, Price & Where to Buy

If you have been searching for an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag sequel, there is one — and it is a comic. Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple picks up Edward Kenway’s story straight after Black Flag. Volume 4 of the English edition is out on 18 August 2026 at a list price of $19.99.

The reason this is confusing is not that anyone made the word up. Ubisoft called it a sequel itself. What gets dropped along the way is the word that came after it.

Is there an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag sequel?

Yes, and Ubisoft’s own announcement is the reason people think it might be a game.

The headline on Ubisoft’s newsroom in April 2023 reads:

“Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Sequel Webcomic Coming Exclusively to WEBTOON”

That phrase is in the web address of the article too. Ubisoft is not hedging about the relationship either — its own copy says the series will “continue the story of Edward Kenway immediately following the events of Black Flag, after his full integration into the Assassin Brotherhood.”

So Forgotten Temple is a genuine, officially licensed continuation. It is simply a comic rather than software. Drop the last word from that headline and you get “Black Flag Sequel Coming”, which is how the story has travelled ever since — and it is why a lot of people are searching for a release date on a game that does not exist.

Two things worth knowing about the shape of it. Edward’s half is set in 1725, taking him through Southeast Asia. The present-day half introduces Noa Kim, in Ubisoft’s words “a Korean American descendant of Edward, who investigates the Assassin’s past while searching for information on his family”. It is published by Redice Studio, with story by ARC and art by Tabii.

When does the next volume come out?

Volume 4 is out on Tuesday 18 August 2026, a week from today.

The schedule is unusually exact. Those four dates are 91 days apart every time, to the day — a clean thirteen-week cadence held across three intervals without slipping once. That is the sort of thing worth noticing if you are deciding whether to start the series.

One small precision about the date itself. The publisher’s wording is “ships on or around August 18, 2026”, which is a shipping window rather than a midnight release. Treat it as the week rather than the minute, and if you are ordering to arrive on the day, order before it.

How much does the Black Flag sequel cost?

$19.99 for each volume, and that is a list price rather than what you will pay.

Every one of the four English volumes carries the same $19.99 figure, so the complete English run to date is $79.96 at list. The publisher’s page prints “PRICE MAY VARY BY RETAILER” directly under the price, which is the honest way to read it — shops discount trade paperbacks routinely, and the number on the publisher’s site is the ceiling far more often than it is the till price.

We are not printing a price in pounds. Several sterling figures are circulating and we could not confirm any of them from a UK retailer. Converting $19.99 would be worse than guessing, because UK trade paperback prices are set independently rather than derived from the dollar price. Where can I buy it?

Through any of the retailers the publisher itself lists, or in a comic shop.

VIZ Media’s own product pages link out to Amazon across several regions, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Bookshop.org, Booktopia, Dymocks, Indigo, Kinokuniya and Waterstones, and the publisher also runs a comic-store locator for buying in person. Ordering direct from the publisher’s own shop is the fourth route.

Two practical notes for a book rather than a game. The ISBN is the thing to search with, not the title — Assassin’s Creed has several unrelated manga lines and a search by name will bury you in them. Volume 4 is 9781974765126. And a comic shop can order it for you even if it is not on the shelf, which is often faster than it sounds and keeps the money local.

If you are buying for someone who has only played the game, start them at Volume 1 rather than here. This is a continuation with its own cast, not a retelling.

Do I have to buy the books to finish the story?

No — the whole thing already ran online, and it is finished.

This is the part most buying guides leave out, and it changes the decision. Forgotten Temple was a WEBTOON original before it was a book. Its series page is marked COMPLETED, with 4.4 million views and 203,058 subscribers, and the run reached 151 episodes between April 2023 and March 2026.

So the story is not being written as the books come out. It is done. The print edition is a slower, tidier way to own something that already exists in full.

One caveat, and we are stating it narrowly on purpose. On the desktop site, the episode list runs from Episode 1 to Episode 7 and then points you at the WEBTOON app for the rest. We have not verified what the whole 151-episode run costs to read there, so we are not going to tell you it is all free. What is safe to say: the opening episodes are readable in a browser, and the app is where the rest of it lives.

Is Volume 4 the end?

No, and the claim that it is has been repeated a lot.

Volume 4 has been widely described as concluding a four-part series. The publisher’s own page carries no finale framing at all. More to the point, the arithmetic rules it out: 151 episodes will not fit into four books averaging about 208 pages, and the French edition was already six volumes further along by April 2026.

What that means for a buyer is straightforward. English readers are behind the story, not at the end of it, and Volume 4 is a waypoint.

Is a Black Flag sequel game coming?

Nothing has been announced, and Ubisoft’s own July 2026 results are where that is anchored.

This is worth being careful about, because “no game has been announced” is easy to say and easy to get wrong. Ubisoft’s Q1 results for FY2026-27, published on 23 July 2026, set out the year’s line-up: Black Flag Resynced, which arrived on 9 July, Rayman Legends Retold on 1 October and Just Dance Decades of Hits on 13 October, alongside unnamed titles “to be announced at a later stage”. For the two financial years after that, Assassin’s Creed appears as a brand with no title and no date attached to it.

Three things that document does not say, which are worth stating so this is not read as more than it is:

• Ubisoft has announced other Assassin’s Creed games. None of them is a Black Flag follow-up, and none of them has a release date.
• Ubisoft still has a pirate game. Skull and Bones is in the same release schedule with a new season. “No new pirate game” is fair; “no pirate game” is not.
• There is no announced expansion for Resynced either. No downloadable content for it appears anywhere in that schedule.

What this does not tell you

Whether that stays true, what it costs in your currency, or whether the comic is any good.

This is a negative with a date on it. Gamescom runs from 26 to 30 August 2026, two weeks after this was written, and an announcement there would age the section above immediately. Everything here describes what has been published as of 11 August 2026.

It does not give you a price in pounds, euros or anything else, for the reason set out above: we could not confirm one, and a converted price would be a fabrication wearing a currency symbol.

And it does not tell you whether Forgotten Temple is worth reading. That is a review, this is a buying guide, and the two questions deserve to be kept apart.
