iPhone Duo Guide: Price, Specs, Pre-Order Date and What Apple Has Confirmed

- 🔑 iPhone Duo is not a rumor: Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone on September 9, 2026. Pre-orders open Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET), with sales starting Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, according to Apple’s own newsroom and store pages.
- Apple’s US buy page lists $1,999 for 256GB, $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB and $3,199 for 2TB, the same in both colors. Apple’s advertised $83.29 a month for 24 months is the starting price divided by 24 and requires carrier-linked installments.
- The Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, a titanium build, an A20 Pro chip and two rear cameras. It has no dedicated telephoto lens: Apple calls its 2x crop from the 48MP main sensor optical-quality, and hands-on reports note it is not a separate lens.
- Apple’s figures of up to 31 hours of video on the inner display, 44 on the outer and a 50 percent charge in about 20 minutes come from its own lab tests on preproduction units. The fast charge needs a 60W-capable adapter and cable, sold separately.
- Apple says its nano-texture finish and adhesives minimize the crease, not remove it, and early hands-on writers describe it as visible in some lighting. No independent reviews, durability tests or teardowns exist yet, because the phone is not on sale.
- Several details are secondhand or still moving: a reported $19 AppleCare+ price for replacing the cover layer that we could not confirm, a single-source supply report Apple has not commented on, and fake pre-order pages. Order only through Apple’s website or app, an Apple Store, or your carrier.
Apple’s iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, starts at $1,999 in the US, opens for pre-order on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET) and goes on sale Friday, October 23. Those figures come from Apple’s own newsroom, product, specs and store pages, which we read directly as of Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Nobody can order the phone yet, and the only outside impressions are short hands-on sessions. This guide keeps what Apple states apart from what testers and secondhand reports say.
What is the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, announced on September 9, 2026 at the same event as the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. It opens like a book: a 7.6-inch inner display folds shut over a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the opened phone, at 5.2 mm thick, is the thinnest iPhone ever.
It comes in Night Sky and Star White, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB of storage. It weighs 254 grams (8.96 ounces) and is 11.3 mm thick when closed.
How much does the iPhone Duo cost?
In the US the iPhone Duo costs $1,999 for 256GB and $3,199 for 2TB, according to Apple’s buy page. The price is the same in both colors.
| Storage | US price | Step up |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999 | n/a |
| 512GB | $2,199 | +$200 |
| 1TB | $2,599 | +$600 |
| 2TB | $3,199 | +$1,200 |
Apple advertises $83.29 a month for 24 months, which is the $1,999 starting price divided by 24. The footnote says that requires Apple Card Monthly Installments and choosing AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon at checkout.
The carrier offers on Apple’s page, up to $1,200 at AT&T and up to $1,000 at T-Mobile, are ceilings that depend on your plan and your trade-in’s model and condition. They are paid as monthly bill credits, and the carriers’ footnotes say credits stop and the remaining device balance comes due if you cancel service. Apple’s case is $79 and its Folio with kickstand is $129. One aside: Apple’s UK page starts at £1,999 and its Canadian page at C$2,999.
When can you pre-order the iPhone Duo?
Pre-orders open Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET), and Apple says the phone is available from Friday, October 23. Apple’s UK page gives 1 p.m. UK time for the same moment.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Mon, Oct 12 | Apple’s store says to return and get ready |
| Fri, Oct 16 | Pre-orders, case and Folio orders open |
| Fri, Oct 23 | On sale in 70-plus countries and regions |
| Fri, Oct 30 | 28 more countries and regions |
Press coverage describes the October 12 step as setup: pick color and capacity, confirm carrier status, add accessories, AppleCare+, a trade-in, payment and address, then order in one tap. Nothing on Apple’s page says it holds a unit for you.
What are the iPhone Duo’s specs?
The iPhone Duo pairs a 7.6-inch inner folding display and a 5.4-inch outer display with an A20 Pro chip, a titanium build and two batteries, per Apple’s spec sheet.
- Displays: The inner OLED is 1878 by 2670 pixels with a nano-texture finish; the outer is 1398 by 2034. Both run up to 120Hz and reach 3,000 nits peak outdoors.
- Build: Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display, IP68 rating.
- Chip: A20 Pro with a 6-core CPU Apple says is up to 20 percent faster than A19 Pro. Apple publishes no RAM figure.
- Battery: Apple’s lab figures, from tests on preproduction units, are up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 on the outer. Its claim of up to 50 percent charge in about 20 minutes needs a 60W-capable adapter and cable, sold separately. Apple publishes no capacity in mAh.
- Unlock and SIM: Touch ID in the side button, not Face ID, per Apple’s FAQ. It is eSIM-only.
- Software: iOS 27 adapted for the fold, with Split View. Siri AI is in English beta, with five more languages due in October, per Apple. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is promised for later this year, with no date.
Does the iPhone Duo have a telephoto lens?
No, the iPhone Duo has no dedicated telephoto lens. It has two rear cameras, a 48MP Main and a 48MP Ultra Wide. Apple says the Main sensor enables a 12MP “optical-quality” 2x telephoto, and hands-on reports note it is not a separate lens, with one calling it a crop of the main camera’s image.
| Spec | Duo | 18 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | $1,999 | $1,199 |
| Rear cameras | 2 | 3 |
| Telephoto lens | No | Yes |
| Action button | No | Yes |
Is the crease gone, and can the cover layer be replaced?
Apple says its design minimizes the crease, not that it is gone. It credits the nano-texture finish and adhesives that let the display layers glide as the screen folds. Early hands-on writers differ: one says the crease is still visible in certain lighting, another that it is visible but cannot be felt, and a third could not feel it with the phone flat. One adds that foldable creases can grow more visible with repeated folding.
The cover layer over the inner display is replaceable, per an Apple executive. Kate Bergeron, Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering, said in a creator interview reported on October 1 that the layer can be peeled off and swapped. MacRumors and 9to5Mac report that Apple’s support site lists $19 with AppleCare+ in the US. We could not load that support page ourselves, so treat $19 as unconfirmed. No price without AppleCare+ has been reported.
Are there independent reviews or durability tests yet?
No. As of October 3, 2026 we found no full reviews, independent durability tests or teardowns. The phone is not on sale, so Apple’s battery, charging and crease claims have not been independently measured. One report resting on a single anonymous supply-chain source claims production is facing difficulties; Apple has not commented.
How do you avoid fake iPhone Duo pre-order pages?
Pre-orders do not open until Friday, October 16, so a page taking orders sooner is not Apple’s. Reporting on research from security firm Malwarebytes describes a fake iPhone Duo pre-order page that offers a $500 voucher billed as a partner exclusive. It reportedly tries an exploit chain against iPhones on older software (reported as iOS 18.4 to 18.6.2) when the page is merely opened.
Order only through Apple’s website or app, an Apple Store, or your own carrier. Skip links in texts, emails and ads, and keep iOS updated.
What should you check before October 16?
Re-read Apple’s buy page on Monday, October 12 and again on Friday, October 16, because Apple can change prices, dates and carrier offers. The price ladder, dates and spec sheet above are Apple’s; the carrier offers, the $19 figure and the supply report are the parts most likely to move.
If you plan to lease, our explainer on how Apple Upgrade works covers what a lease means. We will rewrite this page when pre-orders open.
How we verified this
✅ Apple’s own pages were read directly, not through summaries. We fetched the raw text of Apple’s September 9, 2026 press release, the iPhone Duo product page, its tech-specs page, the US buy page, and the UK and Canada buy pages on October 3, 2026. Every price, date, dimension and specification on this page comes from those pages unless the text says otherwise. Apple’s newsroom feed, whose latest entries were dated September 29, showed no newer iPhone Duo item after September 9, and Apple’s separate September 14 Siri AI release was used to confirm that other Siri AI languages are still listed as coming in October.
✅ Prices and times were re-read against the live buy pages. The US ladder ($1,999, $2,199, $2,599, $3,199), the October 16 pre-order time of 5 a.m. PT, the October 23 on-sale date, the October 30 date for 28 more countries and regions, the October 12 get-ready line, the UK pre-order time of 1 p.m. and the UK (from £1,999) and Canada (from C$2,999) starting prices all matched. The $83.29 monthly figure is Apple’s, and its footnote ties it to Apple Card Monthly Installments with AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon.
⚠️ Where outside summaries disagreed with Apple, we followed Apple. Some summaries and one hands-on listed a RAM figure, a battery capacity in mAh, or an aluminum hinge. Apple’s spec sheet publishes no RAM or mAh figure and says the frame and hinge cover are grade 5 titanium, so none of those outside figures appear here. Apple’s press release says the phone will be available with iOS 27.1. We left the version out of the body, because outside summaries frame it as shipping at launch and Apple’s wording does not say that.
✅ The zoom wording is Apple’s, labeled as Apple’s. Apple’s spec sheet lists two rear cameras and calls the 2x output optical-quality; its comparison table marks the telephoto camera as not applicable. We checked Apple’s text against hands-on reports: one calls the 2x a crop of the main camera’s image, and another says it is not the same as a dedicated telephoto lens.
⚠️ Battery and charging figures are Apple lab results, not measurements. Apple’s footnotes say its video-playback and charging tests were run in July 2026 on preproduction units, and its typical-use figure in August 2026. All are “up to” figures. Fast charging needs a 60W-capable adapter and cable, sold separately.
⚠️ Hands-on impressions disagree on the crease, and none is a test. We read three independent hands-on reports (by type: an Apple-focused news site, a consumer tech publication and an Android-focused publication). They give different descriptions of how visible the crease is. We report the range and Apple’s own wording, not a verdict. No full reviews, durability tests or teardowns existed when we checked.
⚠️ The $19 cover-layer price is unconfirmed. It is attributed to Apple’s support site by two Apple-focused news sites that also quote an Apple vice president in a creator interview. Apple’s support page renders with JavaScript and we could not read the figure there. The price without AppleCare+ was not reported.
⚠️ The supply report rests on one anonymous source. It is repeated across many outlets but traces back to a single source in a Chinese news report. We give it one hedged sentence, no yield figures, no analyst unit forecasts and no prediction about availability or sellouts. Apple has not commented.
⚠️ The pre-order scam details come from secondary coverage. We read one outlet’s coverage of Malwarebytes’ research in full and saw search summaries of several others, but not Malwarebytes’ own post, and the iOS 18.4 to 18.6.2 range is as reported. We did not independently confirm any Apple statement about it, and the advice given is general: order only through Apple or your carrier and keep iOS updated.
⚠️ Still moving when we wrote this: the October 12 get-ready step, the October 16 pre-order, carrier offers and trade-in terms, the Apple Pencil date, the October Siri AI language rollout and any first full reviews. This page is pinned to October 3, 2026.
✅ No betting odds, spreads, or win-probability models appear anywhere on this page. It also makes no forecast of sales, price or shortages, and gives no verdict on whether the phone is worth buying.
